  1. Depends on the chips! on Ask Slashdot: Linux on Mobos w/ Integrated Sound & Video. · · Score: 1

I have an intel board with an integrated Ensoniq chip which does work with linux 2.0.36 or greater.

Find out what video/sound chips are on the motherboard.
Personally, I would steer clear of generic stuff - stick with Asus for your mobo and you CANNT go wrong. Don'y skimp on such an important component. Just my .02.

What a load of shit. If it properly follows unix filesystem standards, writes and parses perfect (read standard) XML, and isn't a bloated pig, I might consider it. Otherwise, no.

About eight months ago I gave up on dual booting 95 and linux. I realized I don't need Word Processors at all, I don't need games, I don't need warez; I don't need any of that crap.

I needed to learn linux, and it just wasn't going to happen if I kept booting into comfy, crash happy windows.
It's painful to switch because unix was so alien to me, yet I saw an elegance and beauty in it's design that I just didn't see in windows.

Now I can't stand to even look at windows, and I get along in Linux just fine. I write everything in emacs/html.

When using windows I feel chained, hampered. Dead ends and barriers to use everywhere. Learning unix is definitely liberating.

I'm concerned mainly whether they're going to use GTK for their applications or that HORRIBLE implementation of Motif they did for Word Perfect.

Does anyone know whether it's possible for them to write apps to winelib but still use GTK (I have no idea)?

GTK kicks ass. They need to use GTK!!!!!!!! and don't say GTK is ugly because it's themeable.

Yeah, all those companies - SGI, Corel, Sun, - were all starting to collapse. And the desperation surrounding those circumstances forced them to see the light.

It also seems like it's working. Free Software is generating huge amounts of hype these days, which is wonderful ... what I can't believe is that everything is going so well. It's incredible.

Maybe the new driver for the G200 / full Open GL support will be ready for Xfree 4.0 and true type built in as well! This is going to be a great year for LINUX!!!!
