I had nothing but problems with it. A few games worked okay with it, but a majority didn't. Severe tearing issues, games totally unplayable, very frequent hangs. Since switched to nvidia, i have had none of that.
Nvidia is clearly far more serious about their drivers and linux support than ati.
I gotta agree with this. I'm an admin and have to clean up this kind of crap both in the office and at customer sites.
Often times there are odd, often random errors in applications, and it begins to get worse. Or the system even if it's fast begins to crawl. I would say that 8 out of 10 times, it's spyware. In one case I found, according to SpyBot Search and Destroy (excellent tool by the way), 311 spybots and adware shits. This particular system went from the mouse barely moving on a 2.4GHz P4 with DDR ram to what it should have been.
User education is key here. But that is a depressing role to try to be educator, because it's almost all completely ignored.
Sir Arthur C Clarke has made some very interesting statements:
"I'm fairly convinced that we have discovered life on Mars," Clarke told SPACE.com Sunday as Buzz Aldrin listened. "There are some incredible photographs from [the Jet Propulsion Laboratory], which to me are pretty convincing proof of the existence of large forms of life on Mars! Have a look at them. I don't see any other interpretation."
Also further down the page is a short discussion about NASA changing colors, with an interesting picture of mars from Hubble. Have a peek.
You are going to need some very good social engineering skills to try and get that information. Most telemarketers only want YOUR information. When you start asking them for thiers they will get suspicious and hang up.
In some states, such as Michigan, it is state law that if you ask a telemarketer operating out of Michigan for their information, they must give their information to you. That means their company's full name and address, their phone number, and their supervisors name. I'm pretty sure it can be bent easily to force the individual telemarketer to give THEIR personal info, as well. I'm glad we had such a hardass attourney general, who is now our Govenor.
Every time something like this happens, I swear it feels like the "Old World" is dying. The world of honesty and morals and common sense, and personal responsibility.
It's like it's all going away. Nearly anything can be bought and paid for, screw everyone else. I feel like I came from another age. And I don't like where this one is going.
It's not that I'm old or anything, hell, I'm not even 30.
Thanks a bunch, parliment.
Keep up the good fight people (though at times I wonder what the use is).
"Everyone's always whining about 'what about the children?' and 'save the children' blah blah. Know what I say? FUCK the children. That's right, FUCK EM."
Yeah, I posted this about 2.5 minutes ago elsewhere. This quote again comes to mind, from American Beauty:
Lester Burnham: You don't think it's kinda weird & fascist? Caroyln Burnham: Possibly, but you don't want to be unemployed. Lester Burnham: Oh well, alright, let's all sell our souls and work for Satan because it's more convenient that way.
If you can't keep them up, don't have them in the first place.

Quite too late for this customer.
I had a radeon 9000 pro 64MB.

Richard C Hoagland (remember him? No? Remember the "face"?) has an interesting theory, called the Mars Tidal Model.
c J: www.enterprisemission.com/files/TIDES.pdf+&hl=en&l r=lang_en&ie=UTF-8
It's a long but awfully interesting read. You can find it here, though it is in PDF:
http://www.lunaranomalies.com/images/TIDES.pdf
Google claims you can view it in HTML, however this isn't working for me:

Richard's main site is http://www.enterprisemission.com/ . Some of his stuff is waay out there, but some of it is truly interesting and possible.
Works for me, then what I said about it being just a shitty search engine applies.
Glad I saw this, I did not know Tivo tracks such data. The reasons do not matter but I do not want anyone snooping on me like that.
So they lost two future customers there.
Why two? Well me and my father.
I definately won't be using a biased search engine. I might go as far as to say censored:
Number of results for the search "linux"
at http://www.google.com/ : "about 12,500,000."
at http://search.msn.com/ : "about 429"
That's way more than a little difference. That's a ratio of about 431034:1.
I'm bored so let's try the same thing with "microsoft":
google: "about 9,470,000"
msn: "about 3856"
This time it's a ratio of about 24559:1 . Draw your own conclusions. At the very least I think msn is just a shitty search.
And yes I'm biased! I LOVE IT!
And if you're really bad, he'll invite you to his Panty Room(TM).
[add creepy deep voice for full effect]
All I gotta say:
nslookup 18.244.1.102
or
dig -x 18.244.1.102

Is 2.6 really noticably faster than 2.4 for regular desktop use (X responsiveness, etc...)?
Yes, it definately is.
Note that Linus says preemption should be turned off for now, there are odd problems.
Why thank you, I just had it stuffed.
It works for me. Upgraded from 2.6.0-test9-mm5.
:)
This may become the final 2.6.0
Rock on, Linus and team.
I have a 5500. It's a neat little toy but now currently useless.

Did ya get the memo on the TPS reports? I'll go ahead and make sure you get another.

Progress rules.
This drives me nuts, on a daily basis.
Linux is NOT out to compete with anything. It's just a kernel.
Be specific. Did it take from certain COMMERCIAL distros? Okay fine, so say so.
God. We're technical people, saying "Linux" is too vague.

Like George Carlin says:
"Everyone's always whining about 'what about the children?' and 'save the children' blah blah. Know what I say? FUCK the children. That's right, FUCK EM."
Or something along those lines.
Well I tried to copy the whole thing here, but "Lameness filter encountered. Post aborted!"
Filter my middle finger, asswipe.
Nice posting a denied link.

Thanks guys, for the daily humor post. Usually it's SCO, but this is even more amusing.
