My friend and I are working on the specs for something very similar, except that in our design the bus master sat outside of the bus. Either way, we came up with an interesting system where one half of the bus operated as something resembling a token-ring network (except unlike the original it would not choke on a newly inserted card), operating in an asynchronous mode, the other half being a sort of back-door into each card's memory, so that the bus master could mediate DMA transfers of a sort. The other concepts we had were, as alluded to before, for hot-plugging cards.

While the solution expressed earlier (Layer 3 Addressing w/ a seperate virtual Layer 2 network for each node of each switch) would also work, this makes more sense in that it almost certainly would cost less to set up. Also, it could be an easily reusable solution. The red/yellow/green box could be done w/ LEDs as mentioned but would be much simpler done just as a part of a GUI display.

There's no good reason why you can't set up a wireless relay network with directional antennae. If you find the speed to be lacking (11Mbps should not be), you can always work out a creative routing solution that bonds two or more WiFi channels together. If this isn't enough for you, cabling is the only way to go...lasers have already been proven not to work that well until you reach very dangerous levels. The other possibilities for such a system are if you wanted to lease loops from your local telco monopoly, but this is really only viable if you want to serve more than a few people. As for running cable...there's a chance that, if you don't have to run it across a road, the city will allow you, it never hurts to ask.

That would be a much simpler "robotic arm" than the one that picked up a new CD out of a pile, and most of the CD-selection would already be done by the changer.

The alcohol and tobacco companies spend enormous amounts of money lobbying, especially the tobacco companies. These are the two that would be hardest hit by legalization of a much less dangerous substance that causes similar if not more pronounced and uplifting mood altering effects, that substance being marijuana. I am all for the legalization or at least decriminalization of it, but I do not see it happening any day soon without much more concerted effort than is currently being put forth.

Well, in Dimitry's case, as well as in many others, it comes to mind that just because a law was passed, does not mean it must be obeyed. If a law is judged unjust, american people have the responsibility to protest it in a way that will cause positive results. That includes both peaceful demonstrations as well as breaking of the law in peaceful ways, to allow, in this case, fair use of the media that is being unjustly kept from us. If we do not protest this law, then it will stay on the books. If we do protest this law, we will at least have a chance of winning, as long as protests do not get violent. I will stress that again. Protests must not become violent. Violent protest has achieved almost none of its goals, throughout history. Non-violent, peaceful protest requires a stronger commitment, but it gets more done, always has, always will. People are more likely to respond to it. It is a very large commitment, but it is one we need to make when we feel a law or other social situation is unjust. Civil disobedience must stay civil. We must peacibly assemble, and petition the government for redress of grievances, as is still for the moment our right in this country.

(No Quake, but a lot of Windoze processor intensive stuff...do you know how many cycles it takes just to shuffle stuff around in its brain-damaged memory scheme?) After that amount of time, it would BSOD and halt. Anyway, when we put a new fan on the system, it worked fine. I'm typing on it right now, and we haven't seen even one problem that would suggest anything has happened to the processor. Point is, make sure you have your motherboard protection turned on if it is provided, and also, Athlons are much more durable than some give them credit for. The whole purpose of representative democracy is that the representatives follow their constituents and the public's will. One of the best ways to insure this is by gathering into groups, and using the channels now reserved for large corporations. If you look back into our nation's history, large groups of the public have had a great deal of success in changing the world as we know it. There is no reason what-so-ever that it could not happen again. Particularly now when most of the public actually has their eyes open for a brief moment in history.
