Too many developers "scratch the same itch" is a bad thing only for applications/libraries which other software depends on. We know this! This is what standards are for:-) However, for a standard to become standard we need to test lots of options and decide which is best. On the way to standardization we might merge different features, or the standard might require features from different packages which do not exist together at the moment. Different approaches make it easier to decide which feature to keep and which feature to drop.
I personally do not mind having three plotting and five music playing and twelve font editing packages, it does not hurt anybody, and as the author himself points out, people get selfworth from other people using their package. So if we try to come up with a single solution the result will be fewer developers->fewer packages, not same developers->better packages.
Sniffing passwords? They must be using 'almost patched' version of SSHd.
not necessarily: you can connect to a machine on an unsecure channel, and from that machine use a secure channel to connect to your final destination. your password over secure channel can be sniffed by listening to the first channel.

Ideally though, the investors and the workers would be the same people, when the factory workers, IT people etc. directly benefit from their work, there will be incentive to work and to make further investments.
It is always said that without capital no new works would be created, there would be no progress. That is true, however it misses the point that without workforce, capital is useless. Nowadays what's happening is, workforce is losing its say in deciding matters because another country's workforce is used to replace them.
OK, let's try to meet at a minimum common opinion. Would you agree that a compensation for a work done should be sufficient to live a life as decent as the investors? Another question, do you think threatening people by taking their jobs away and making them to agree to low wages this way is fundamentally different from slavery, ie. forcing them to work without sufficient compensation?
