and you're telling me that it's not worth giving the government a little more leeway if it could possibly help stop terrorists???

Yeah, I'd say that. Govenment is not to be trusted. That a well known and historically supported truth. Just because it's easier to hand your life over to the gov't and then forgo responsibility, doesn't mean it's the better thing to do.

We are still fighting for our rights, and will be until the human race ceases to exist. Those in power want continued power over those who aren't, and will abridge the latter's rights wholly as much as they see feasible. This is also historically well shown.

I think you need to take some history courses. I'm not talking about America to the Civil War, either. You need look no further than post-WWII America to find numerous examples of it. You have your head in the sand, and believe what the gov't tells you just because the US has had over a hundred years without a coup. Don't.

    I liked this part:
Getting FC2 to a state of usability in a home or office environment requires a great deal more labor than I believe should be required. However, my complaints were put into perspective last week when I visited a classroom to start getting it ready for summer term. I walked in on a cursing, overworked desktop support tech who was griping loudly about the inordinate time it takes to install and patch Windows on a roomful of computers -- in an organization that will not pay for disk imaging software or an in-house Windows Update server. "You don't need Microsoft Office installed on these, I hope?" he asked through a fog of sweat and frustration. I acknowledged that I did not. Then he wanted to know if I needed HP printer drivers installed, with a cynical groan about how it would "only take a few more hours." I used to supervise people who support Windows on the desktop. I had forgotten how bad Windows really is. Suddenly my gripes about Fedora seemed petty

Thailand (which I know more about than the other countries), has had government supported open source for many years, including creating SIS (a Linux distro for use as an internet gateway in schools) and the necessary free internet access for the schools using it.
