OK, so I only glanced at TFA, and I realise that Intelsat has to replace the lost functionality as quickly as they can... But I can't help being slightly suspicious about the timing with the launch of Intelsat-8...
I mean, do satellite-launching companies have any obligations to bring an old satellite down cleanly and safely to avoid the accumulation of space junk ? If so, how much would such an operation cost ?
Undoubtedly looks like I'm speaking from under a tin foil hat here, but I wonder how long in advance, before the "loss", the launch of Intelsat-8 had been planned for...
Money in an open-source project sounds bad indeed. Makes you wonder if the anonymous donor is a certain Billy, trying to screw Free-mindedness from behind...
This is probably going to be considered offtopic, and possibly it will even be redundant, for lack of time to read everything posted here so far ;
I would however like to point out that the general geek's point of view over here in France is that it is the ultimate loser's act to even think about buying a PC ready-made in a superstore or from a constructor.
IT-knowledgeable people here always get their stuff from a well-renowned local store, where they can customize at will, and get proximity service they can count on afterwards. Then, little upgrades are often made with bits and pieces bought at bargain prices off the Net, and bigger upgrades happen at the elected shop.
That's just my view anyway...
On that note (oops, pun not intended), we have musical pi.
Magnificient.
"...and they can't go to Cohen and moan."
Yeah, well, fingers crossed and all that...

"Viola! Free energy!"
Just in case that was not a typo, I feel obliged to point out that it should have been "Voila!".
"Viola", you see, means "raped" (simple past, 3rd p.s.).
Kindly keep your deviant free energy fantasies to a reasonable level. Thank you.
Let us just hope that the people haven't herd about that yet !
I'm sorry, I'm so sorry ! *ducks*
I'm sure you won't see this, because there's no particular reason why it should be modded up, but I applaud you, Sir.
That's all I have to say about that.
A Mersenne Twister is just a fancy name {probably made up by some marketing type}
