Sounds lazy and stupid to me. Write once run anywhere toolkits always give a sub-par user experience. This is why Java UIs never really took off, and why Adobe AIR apps always get bitched about. Plus, you're always lagging behind the platform in supported features. This is one of those cases where mediocre is frequently worse than nothing.

That's the sad misconception here. WebM is likely just as patent-encumbered as MPEG-4. We just don't know what the patents are, who controls them, or whether or not the owners intend to enforce them.

  4. 1Password is the solution on The Case For Lousy Passwords · · Score: 1

I used to keep a GPG-encrypted file in my home directory containing all my passwords. Then I discovered 1Password through MacHeist, and have never looked back. It lets me generate totally random passwords for everything, fills out tedious signup forms for me in a single keypress, and fills password forms for me in just one more keypress. It also lets me keep "authenticated bookmarks", which are bookmarks to sites that automatically fill out my username/password and log in when I visit them (after entering my master password, of course).

It's also virtually immune to phishing attacks. If the URL doesn't match, it won't fill in the password. This protects you even against scarily good phishing attempts.

On top of that, I don't have to worry about being "locked out" of my passwords or losing them in a fire, because 1) it's sync'd to my iPhone (and other machines) via Dropbox, and 2) the keychain file it emits includes a standards-compliant HTML page that contains all my encrypted passwords, which it uses JavaScript to unencrypt when given my master key.

There are a stupefying number of untracked asteroids out there, including ones with irregular orbits that could easily be too far away or simply missed while we're both on the same side of the sun. Also, an asteroid doesn't have to be extremely large to cause an incredible amount of damage. Even an asteroid only a little bigger than this flyby could level a city. Tunguska was estimated to only be a few tens of meters across.

And that's not even considering asteroids with insanely low albedo. We're not even close to tracking a significant fraction of the asteroids out there, much less all of the ones we should worry about.

Lastly, having some amount of easily-accessible cash on-hand for an emergency is never a bad thing. Mine gains interest. Yours either doesn't exist, doesn't gain interest, or isn't nearly as quickly accessible in an emergency. Once more, end of story.

Just because BoA hasn't screwed you over yet doesn't mean they aren't going to some day. Just because you aren't unhappy with the amenities BoA provides you likewise doesn't mean it's still not even better somewhere else.
