Internal documentation is written for people who already have secret clearance within the company, not for publication. It would take a lot of effort by highly paid lawyers and technical writers to clean up a secret document for public consumption.

The whole point is that there is no reason for the information to be secret in the first place, and thus you shouldn't need a super secret clearance to read it.

I don't like MSFT any more than any other company, but you can't force companies to support products forever. There are several applications that only work on certain OSes

A company that intentionally breaks compatibility (i.e. MS) deserves a lot more complaints about supporting their older products than most companies.

Unfortunatly the only chance at a solution we could create would be for programmers to refuse to support newer versions of windows until MS gets it's act together, but I don't see that happening anytime soon either.

If you have a Nuke plant, and really lose it, you have Chernobyl.

You might want to read up on what actually happened before you start spouting Chernobyl as an example.

Not only are US nuclear reactors are significantly safer than Chernobyl could have even dreamt of being, but the majority of fault with Chernobyl was because of human stupidy.

I say stupidity instead of error because there was a lot more than one problem and many of them were done intentionally. They were doing things they shouldn't have been doing to the reactor and when things went wrong they didn't do what they were supposed to do to fix the problem. A lot of the casualties were caused because they didn't follow the clean up procedures we would be following today.

Claiming US nuclear power plants are unsafe because of what happened in Chernobyl is foolish at best.

Really, though, you shouldn't be hard to those people - their jobs are bad enough as it is. Setting the phone down would be a lot nicer to them; then they'll merely get bored.

You make their job horrible and they'll either quit or demand more money. The more people that quit or demand more money the more money the telemarketing company will have to pay to keep employees. The more money the telemarketing company have to pay the less money they make. The less money they make the more expensive that form of 'advertising' becomes. The more expensive the advertising the less likely they are to perform it, or at least hopefully they less likely they are to bother anyone who has made it perfectly clear they aren't going to buy anything.

I see a GREAT reason to be a complete asshole to telemarketers.

This can extend beyond the phone as well. There are (or at least used to be) a couple telemarketing/phone survey companies in my town. The last person I know who mentioned they were doing telemarketing work received a backhand and at least 15 minutes of me yelling in their ear about the evils of being a telemarketer.

You haven't bought a book lately have you? Last time I spilled water on a book numerous pages were rendered unreadable and the glass was almost empty.

On the same token, I've had a full glass of water spilled directly onto my PDA (which I use as an ebook reader) while it was running (and charger plugged in no less) and after quickly shutting it off and letting it dry out before using it again it still works great.

"crumple pages etc of it up" ... if I applied the same force in crumpling a book as it'd take for my PDA to flex at all it'd rip the book in half.

As for burning... Unless the flame was placed directly on the touch screen with an open cover I seriously doubt my PDA could be damaged enough to stop it from working by a fire that wouldn't destroy enough of the book to make it unreadable.

For the record, despite how easy ebooks are (or could be) to obtain, I prefer reading printed books as well... but some of your reasoning is complete bullshit.

Yeah, because my two to six rentals every couple months are really worth the cost of the subscription fee... Especially since they are spur of the moment stuff, I don't plan 3-5 days in advance when I'm going to feel bored and want to grab a movie, or more often a game, for that night or the next few days. In order for it to be worth it, you'd have to order at least 4 movies a month and pretty much always have one laying around from them... I know lots of people do that, but there are a lot more that wouldn't simply because Hollywood doesn't make enough decent movies.

Back on topic a bit.. the real point is they are doing far more than creative wording in their new ads, they are lieing to the customer, which is both immoral and illegal... I think hollywood video will be the ones who have the privilege of ripping me off on game rentals from now on.
