What makes you think that only the third party and Microsoft knew about this.
There's been an exploit floating around for this LSASS-based flaw for at least 2 months (which is when I got my hands on the POC). So you'd be totally correct to assume so.
This I believe, was before Microsoft was even made aware of it.
Now perhaps we can get a group like NANOG interested in sponsoring a blacklist for spammer addresses?
That is such a bad idea. It's already bad enough that these stupid ORBs blacklists, and ones used by AOL, rr.com, and a bunch of ther major sites blacklist my IP *just because* it's on 24.0.0.0/8, they don't look at the fact I have a static IP, and say it's in their "broadband" block.
What, now they're going to start blocking my *websites* too just because I'm on a cable netblock?
Wow. What a novel idea, what happened to this free speech crap?
"Linux is unique in that its code is open source,"
couldn't be more wrong.
This article also seems to have a somewhat limited notion of the definition of open source. Maybe someone has an article or somesuch that they could commend to the folks at the BBC? Additionally, the article appears to be about the same conference described in:
I find that doing the curls has increased the pain associated with using a computer in general.. so I don't know, once I stopped doing curls my rists started to feel better.. ah well.
Nothing wrong with TELUS Name servers, I've had 99.9% uptime (minus DDoS against my ADSL.. but that's a different story), but then again I just use them to 'refer' me, and I run my own named setup.
I pay about $35/mo (CDN) for my 1.53mbps/640kbps ADSL in British Columbia with great upstream, low pings, and it's not even PPPoE.. which is just great.
I guess it depends what part of the world you live in, the cable here is great too.. capped at 8mbps/512kbps if you want Shaw, but it's a bit more pricy at around $45/mo unless you get the cable/TV bundle.
I setup a old P3 733 with 384MB of RAM with 2 8GB hard drivers running snort, squid, and a bunch of other caching functions and serving as my NAT for my network, works like a charm.
Yep, every year I "rebuild" old Pentium and Pentium II's to ship to Africa, mainly Zimbabwie and other outlying areas. I build about 150-300 of these computers yearly, and I've been doing it for 4 or 5 years.
Although, the hard thing is getting these computers to the intended reciepents, usually they end up being stolen (who would want a P2?) by corrupt government "officials"..
So yeah, even poor North Americans don't want these computers, which is pretty sad. But Africans will use them.. the only qualm is that we install Windows 95 OSR2 on them, and not FreeBSD which is what I've been pushing for.
These computers still have a use, and alot of them aren't going to the dump unless they don't work anymore. Then they do, and in that case the dump usually takes them for free because they are metal, and they recyle it, so it's all good in the end.
What Microsoft really needs (god I'm giving them good suggestions) is to get Ragnarok Online on the XBox, and the XBox live, and then they would have it made.
A very popular game in Korea, and other parts of the world. Hell, I'd buy an XBox just to play Ragnarok Online if I lived in Korea.;)
Speaking of that laptop. I own it, and I'm loving it. The only thing I wish is that Broadcom would get off their asses and release drivers for Linux or FreeBSD.
It's a great laptop, fast, performing, very cheap, and has a long battery life, not to mention it's AMD:)
*Nods*. I got internet in 1994 =) Although, at the time I didn't really know how to use it, and was quiet a revolution. Trying to get Trumpet Winsock working on Windows 3.11..
Things change, alot. There will probably be similiar options though.
Hah. Well, my dad tried the lying thing on me. Of course I didn't tell him the truth.. didn't work to well. I yanked his internet for a week when he said I wasn't allowed on the computer..
I'd add one to it: Make sure you know then your kids about your computers..
As I'm 16 years old, here's probably the rules I'll have for my kids (yes I know, I'm paranoid.. but look what I've done):
Do not let them have access to the internet. With that in mind, if you do let them have access to the internet, only allow port 80. And only let them have access to Yahoo! Kids. Do not under ANY circumstances give them access to IRC. IRC is by far the root of all evil.
If you are going to give them access to the internet, make sure to stick their computer behind 4 bridges, and a NAT. Filter everything that you could possibly do. In all cases, do NOT let them have access to the internet if at all possible.
Snoop on your kids, msgsnarf is your friend. Firewall logs and snort also help you filter out porn traffic.
In essence, do NOT trust your kids. They will break your trust, it has been proven time and time again. I do not remember the last time I listened to my Dad, uh yeah.. haha.
In his case, I just make sure his computer doesn't get infected with more then 10 viruses. Although he is actually a computer teacher, but that doesn't mean he knows anything about computers..
My laptop does 3D like a dream. I can run Counter-Strike at 1280x800 without any issues, and most games work really well on my laptop.
It's an AMD Athlon Mobile XP 2400+ with 512MB of RAM, a ATI Radeon 9600 with 64MB of RAM, a 40GB HD, built in Wifi and 10/100 ethernet, with S-Video out, and firewire..
It plays all the new games, hell Half-Life 2 even runs at decent speeds.

Microsoft isn't doing so well when it comes to the webserver market, see Netcraft Market survey.
At our school our administrator disabled Command Prompt on Win2k, I also got suspended for a week for using it in Grade 9 (4 years ago).
Last week I tried to hook my laptop up to the network and the network admin just about had a fit.
... I've never been mugged, and I'm canadian too ;) .. Vancouver to boot.

I wonder if http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2000-Ju n/1725.html is relavent to this, could it just be one big hoax?
I hope its real.. heh.

Both slots are empty, the memory is currentley somewhere in the computer. I can upgrade it to 2GB of DDR, so I'm not complaining there.
And the laptop was $3,000 including tax. Canadian dollars though; and I didn't pay for it, so who's complaining?

$19 48x 80min Recordable CD disc (50pcs Cake Box)
That's canadian prices, I sure as heck don't see $0.77/per disc.
Or how about NetBSD/dreamcas?

What' do you think deregulation is?
The reason that deregulation occurs is to stop these problems, so why do they still continue even after the company has been deregulated.
There is arguements for both sides, but usually when a utility company is not deregulated, prices are cheaper, and service is better.
