  1. Re:Why all 3? on DC Vs. Marvel Vs. Capcom Considered? · · Score: 1

You would want all three because then, and only then, can you solve the age old geek question: "Who would win in a fight, Superman or Spiderman, and if the winner fought Chun Li, who would take that one?" The answer is as follows: Superman wins round one, and gets knocked out by Chun Li's wiggly moves in round two.

*sigh* Man I love those Capcom girls.

Here, here! I'll second all that and add the critique of the one and only time I played the multiplayer.... which was basically me and 2 other guys sitting around doing nothing for 20 mins.

Another thing that bothered me about that game was the fact that it was such a big time sink with so little pay off. I never once got my creature sizably big, because you had to play for around 20 hours to max out the size. YAWN! 20 hours? Sheesh.

But don't feel bad about being the only one to buy it on hype, in case you were worried. I bought it based on hype too, and from friends as well. Sadly, they had only played for about 2 hours when they hyped me :(.

Apple has the same issues... I worked for a University bookstore where you had to go if you wanted to get a Mac anywhere in about a 60 mile radius. I was also a rather staunch PC owner but enthusiastic Mac supporter. People who bought machines could get the shirts occasionally (read as: if they showed up to pick up their machine and our Mac corporate guy happened to be there, and they happened to beg for a while). But still, I interfaced with the general public for 40 hours a week, you'd think the rep would be giving me Mac shirts by the boatload. Still, I managed to get a very nice purple one that has the Apple logo very discreetly sewn on the sleeve, and I think out of all the gimme shirts I have it's my favorite. The Corporate guy swore up and down that it was hell for even him to score a shirt for himself, but he always had the really cool ones (the sweaters and pullovers instead of the white tees).

  7. Cheap? Are you crazy? on Is The Dreamcast Undead? · · Score: 1

Standing in EB, one can see used Capcom vs Marvel 2 DC for $35US, and then turn around and see the same title for PS2 for $39US.

This is one of the reasons I decided to break down and get a PS2. The games I wanted were availible on current platforms at nearly the same if not better prices.

Now, indeed there are some good cheap games out there: Tokyo Xtreme Racer ($14.99), SF3 Double Impact ($14.99), Virtua Fighter 3TB ($8.00, I was dancing over that one), Shenmue ($19.99), ShadowMan ($14.99). But on the whole, these are titles that I hunted down, and granted I bought most of them at EB/EBG instead of doing the half.com thing (the power of instant gratification!) but still... the really cool titles out there are still way overpriced IMO.

I can't figure out why the retailers don't get in line at this point and drop their prices on DC games. They aren't paying crap for them anymore (if they even buy them), and most of the titles they have left are dusty because they either suck or are overpriced.

Although I loved the game and the improvements (ala skill points, hiding, not so stealth dependant and OH those beautiful graphics) from NOLF, I really thought the game was weak on script when compared to the first one.

Also a little daunting was the 2gb space needed for install ... urg.

Still! It's a fun game. Love that trailer park scene!

Actually, I mis-worded that. The price point is where, if it's just a little more, you won't buy it. They want as much money out of you as they can get. If people thought that $5 was a fair price for a can of soda, all soda would be $5. As it is, the market only bears about 50-75 cents.

He then asks, "Well, would you sleep with me for a dollar then?" and she replies, "What sort of girl do you think I am?" He says, "Oh, we've established that, now we are just haggling over the price."

The article indicates that the first generation will have analog pickups, so you can play it either way. I would imagine later versions will dispense with the pickup and process only sound off the string. Also, most professionals have a processor loaded with custom presets connected to a foot switch. Not all distortion effects sound the same for each song. So when they need to switch from Distortion 1 to Distortion 2 to Clean, they kick the switch ever how many times and that flips the signal processor. No need for fiddling with knobs either on the guitar or on some foot switch. (read as: this tech isn't quite ready for a garage band where all distortion _does_ sound the same.) When i first read that, I was reminded of some of the things that the Dead used to do during Dark Star. I never cared too much for the Dead, but some of the things they pulled off during that 20-30 minute between set jam were simply amazing. Innovation in music is always a good thing. The Beatles (like em or loathe em as you will) did neat things in the studio, and got the recognition they deserved for it (cf: cutting up loops of tape for the closing sequence in "The Benefit of Mr. Kite", the entire song "Revolution 9"). Pink Floyd circa 1972 was heavily innovative with thier quirky use of stereo and quad -- I'm told to go to a show back then was to subject oneself to virtual streams running down the isle and birds chirruping overhead in an imaginary sky. Lastly, I didn't see anything about wireless transmission in the article at all. Don't knock new tech till you've tried it (and try rtfa next time too).
