Here is the FAQ dealing with archiving journals. I really don't think that having a CSV or XML file with the entries around is "not easy". One thing the FAQ seems to hint at is that you don't get the comments attached to the post. Unlike (apparently) a lot of other LJers, my LJ is by me, for me, and everyone else can choose to read it or not (that is to say, comments aren't why I keep a LJ). So in that respect, I'm like you - I don't care about traffic.

Point is: no you aren't screwed if they get bought out, and considering that LJ is Brad Fitz's baby, I think this is all romourware anyway.

I have an iRiver H340 and absolutely adore it. I'd like to point out that the features you point out are only models that are sold in the EU and Korea. The H300 series in the US has the USBOTG scrapped in favor of DRM compliance. The port's still there, it just does something different. The Korean and EU models can play videos (although it has to be an avi and reformatted to fit the screen). However, if you flash the bios on a US model, you get video playback, lose the DRM function and more or less kill the second data port on the device (in otherwords, no big loss to most here).

Love it. Would recommend it to anyone shopping around. This is my second iRiver product; the first was a multi-codec cd player and it still is fantastic for what it does (play cds or mp3s).

I'm glad to know there are a few more people out there that still know and recognise. :)

Yeah, but you presume that is 2005. I'm betting it's 2006, which is a little more inline with the release rumours for Xbox2. It makes more sense to me that they would release H3 as an X2 launch title than to keep real quiet and vague about a game they would release 4 months after the first sequel.

Think about it a second: Halo 3 Feb 2006 makes more sense than Halo 3 Feb 2005. If it were 2005, there would be more buzz than a flyfarm about it right now.

Since noticing over the last two weeks or so the growing outcry of "But what about the CHILDREN", I've started thinking about the ESRB rating systems and about the games I have that are M rated (I was actually shocked to figure out that Halo & Halo2 were both M, I presumed they were both T. Good thing I'm far past the point of needing or dispensing parental guidance.) and what possibly an AO game could be.

Note: Inclusion on the list below doesn't necc indicate I own the game.
    The Guy Game - M.
    BloodRayne & BR2 - M.
    MaxPayne & MP2 - M.
    The Suffering - M.
    Mafia - M.
    Leisure Suit Larry - M.

One overlooked hot topic about the original HL was that for the time, it had amazingly adept older system compatibility. I mean, I ran it on a Cyrix 133 (which, IIRC, means it was really a 100), with a mere 32mb of ram. Naturally, I used software rendering, but the game still played great.

In other words, that backward compatibility you lament was a selling point for some folks.

Except - everyone I know who has a modded Xbox does it so they install a larger harddrive, then rent a game, rip it to said hard drive and be done with it. Total outlay for a game with a modded xbox is $4 (or less, if you use netflix or blockbuster's similar deal) instead of $40-50.

So - you could have a Live-only legit Xbox, but as far as I know, you'd be killing the reason why people mod them to begin with.

Additionally, I don't think it should come as a surprize to anyone that the forthcoming Xbox2 will not have a hard drive in it - if MS is really loosing money on each console, they must be expecting massive profits on the software side, which said modding is defeating.

Actually it is legal to tape songs off the radio for at least 2 reasons: one is that you have a copy of a song that was paid for via royalties paid to the RIAA; the other is you have an imperfect copy of a song, which if you keep generating copies from that copy you are sooner or later going to end up with a very very lackluster copy of that song. Contrast this with the fact that you can (more or less) get a perfect copy in the digital realm with little to no loss per generation, coupled with the fact that you didn't get the file from some royaly-paid source more likely than not.

Just being Devil's advocate here. I hate those alphabet bastards too.

Not a single issue with playing DVDs though, and I've done that on many occasions.

At anyrate, aren't all the games themselves DVD discs too? I can understand people getting miffed over having to pay about half the price of a new unit in order to get something "fixed", but I still am completely baffled by this case...
