Julia Roberts is rumored to have signed on to the deal for at least two of the three pix. This would be her first outing with the japanese superstar. Mathew Broderick was not available for comment. Frank Zappa once said "Americans will do anything to avoid excellence." He was talking about music, but the same holds true in computing. Low price and mediocrity have won the day. I have come to the concusion that, like other good products those that recognize value will pursue thos eproducts and others, either due to lack of means, need or sophistication will not. It holds true for brands like BMW, why not for computers? The Mac is an obviously better machine, with better software, which endures for that reason.

it sound to me like the major factor here is that it will actually cost you money. so for you there is kazza etc which will provide you with what you have come to expect anyway- low quality, slow, incomplete downloads.

  8. smell the fear! on Microsoft Dismisses Apple's iTunes for Windows · · Score: 1

microsoft is smelling the fear. in charateristic fashion, this would be the first salvo in a series designed to dissuade some Windows users, who by and large do not understand very much about computing in general and who usually tend to believe the usual incompatability rumors. these same poor souls are the hapless victims of all the microsoft failures to provide security, and alas have grown used to inconvience as a way of life. iTunes may be the first truly positive computing experience for many of them.

  11. Re:the reason why they'd do this on Apple Updates Panther Via Software Update · · Score: 1

i feel that the real reason Apple allowed the seed of Panther to flourish over BitTorrent is that it gives the development teama gigantic beta tester system. They pretty much know what forums to monitor for feedback , usually intelligent and insightful, as the average user has no idea of how to obtain the dev version.
Apple benefits greatly from the distribution of the Panther builds. Of course the dev build will have to be repalced by the ultimate final release, but that's okay.

  12. Re:What about Panther? on PowerPC 750GX Begins Sampling Next Month · · Score: 1

I agree with all of the above, except that the rollover effect feature of the rapid user switching relys on quartz extreme, which is not present on my 15" TiBook 500 mHz. Panther is exceptionally fast also on my IMac DVSE 400 and shows a performance boost to most apps. I have personally found few bugs. Expose has become impossible to live without. Now if iSight would run under 600 mHz....

  13. Re:Doubtful on (When) Will Linux Pass Apple On The Desktop? · · Score: 1

WHY? because Apple does not ignore the esthetics of the computing experience. Linux ignores this and
    Windows simply fakes it altogether.

how stupid can you get? you wouldn't work for free, and those of you crying poor because you're in college or (gasp!) grad school won't work for free in the future.
the artists (including the engineers, roadies, etc) who create the music you enjoy do not work for free either, nor are they able to distribute thier work for free, etc.
so suck it up and pay a fuckin' buck and relax...

The interface helps a lot in that it doesn't fight you every step of the way thru tasks.
there is an elegance to the mac vision. the wintel vision is just 'sell machines cheap', coupled with a terrible user experience. people write viruses for windows simply out of contempt.

you forget that apple is a hardware company. they design the software around the hardware. controlling the interface has resulted in an environment that is easy for users to adapt to as times change. OS X represents a major change in the mac environment to exploit the future needs of hardware for users. the mac OS underwent similar change with System 7 and the power PC upgrade. no problem here.
by the way the OS X enviroment is expected to last about 15 years, but it will probably be unrecognizable by that time as we know it.

try it sometime. most apple users have suffered throught the peecee experience and moved on.
