Right, that's a really bad way to do a joystick. But you could do it in a way that wasn't flipping over cars because the owner leaned over to change the station. Basically the car could be smart about it. At highway speeds cranking the joystick isn't going to get you much of a result unless you jab it REALLY hard - and even then the car isn't dumb enough to flip itself over. When the car is stopped, however, jabbing it to the right (say to change into a lane that isn't stopped or parallel park/K-turn) it responds to how hard you press and moves the wheel much quicker than you could if you were turning it. In that way its _better_ than a steering wheel because you can do things like park and maneuver on side streets much faster. The main issue is feed back, but force feedback/vibration through a joystick is old hat by now and easy to implement.
No, he was specifically saying they take games with loyal fan bases and drive them into the ground, thus destroying the fan base. A game that sells 70 million units has a loyal fan base, esp. one that depends on repeat customers through expansion packs. Whether or not its your cup of tea is irrelavent to the fact that people actually like it and are fans of the franchise. And saying that they made those sales off the name of SimCity is rediculous - the demographics of who is playing is completely different. Most of those players never heard of SimCity, SimAnt, SimBuilding, SimXXXXX.
Finally, I can't take you serious with this "flawless" argument: "The only response to this criticism that is logical at all is that you found The Sims to be more innovative and challenging and interesting and well crafted than Sim City 2000 or whatever". Its a personal preference. How can logic be involved? Also, "objectively and obviously" Riiiight, obviously. It obviously sucks. Why does it suck? Doesn't matter, its obvious! I'm not a Sims fan myself but I do realize that some people like what they like, and I'm not going to fault them for it. Finally, have you seen the mechanima produced by the Sims players? That doesn't qualify as "...something that challenges your mind and opens the door to new gameplay ideas"? If anything I think the Sims is more of a sandbox than SimCity just for that feature alone!
"FWIW I feel the same way about Civilization -- I still think the best one was Civ2, though at least with that franchise they never sold out to the likes of EA and the new titles are actually playable and well made."
LOL! I thought this was true too, but then I looked it up and Firaxis (maker of recent Civ stuff) is owned by none other than Take2:) So if this deal goes through it will be under EA as well. And it looks like Sid won't care:
That's total BS. If they really didn't care they'd give you a fast and easy route to install any app. There's a big difference between running an app that crashes the phone and having your phone bricked by trying to work around their DRM with various hacks and such. I can throw anything up on my WM6 device, and if it crashes, yes, that's my fault, but most of the time I won't destroy my phone by trying to install some java game. Apple is taking a very definite stance here and its not "do what you please, we don't care."
Most of the linked articles talk about "new technology for lighting" as in panel lights for rooms and such. Are these panels being manufactured for display tech too? Or is the refresh rate not fast enough yet?
I don't know, I've played $5 blackjack in vegas for hours starting with $60-$75. You can consume those drinks pretty fast - even if you're down $10-$20 you're beating the average at the bar for drinks. (I also include tip for the waitress in there - no tip, no drinks):) Of course, I've had runs where you lose it all in the first 15 hands, but that's pretty much as rare as winning it all in the first 15 hands.
The problem is the lack of 3G limits even what you're considering a phone can do. Right now on my 3G handset I can plug back into my TV set using a slingbox. Good luck on edge. I can remote desktop into my work box and kick off a build process. Again, not feasible on edge. And where are all these hotspots? I admit I don't really go looking for them because 3G rarely sends me in search of more speed, (maybe in a building with bad signal?) but I live in one of the more "techy" areas in the US and I can't get a free wireless spot in the airport, bars, or even a lot of coffee shops. To say people don't really need it or want it is rediculous, and I'd consider anyone spending > $400 on a phone not in the majority of people, but rather someone who wants a powerful mobile experience.
3G is better, you'll admit it when you get there, and I find it truly amazing the backflips people will do to prove that its useless and the iPhone is better off without it. Just admit its one area where the iPhone sucks and move on. (and I'll admit it kicks ass everywhere else and will definately be picking up the 3G version when its out)
That's rediculous. By that logic, Mercedes should stop selling luxury cars and get into the same market as Kia because, hey, the Kia is produced cheaply and sells at a higher profit margin (no idea if that's true, just making an analogy). The point is if there's a market for "hardcore" (is Mario Galaxy hardcore? Because I bet it wasn't cheap to produce!) games and you can make a profit at it you bet your ass no one is leaving money on the table. That just doesn't make any sense.
Ok, I know its not the point of the article, but if you want to make a serious product demo video (which it seems like they did), wouldn't you first want a native English speaker to massage the copy a bit before the British guy reads it? Excellently dictated British Engrish (Britgrish?), its a first!
I think we need another Commie Purge...seems that our old friends the Ruskies have infiltrated Slashdot as well, and it looks like the new Cold War is being played out in the comments section of our beloved tech journal!
Or maybe its a historical piece about an important event in history (start US Space program, which you have to admit is important no matter what the nationality), and the phrase "sputnik scare" was taken in a historical context from within the article. Nah, too far fetched. Your theory is much better, Tom Clancy.
I understand where you're coming from, but had to laugh:
>As for the thrust of this slashdot post, whinging for a government run Internet.... >no fscking way! If you utopians think a government run Internet would be net neutral >think again. A network run by the same assholes who gave us the DMCA [snip]......and the Internet? They started it, and daggumit if they're not going to finish it!
Ah, but you have two types of transfers - a "transfer ownership" and a "loan". The ownership gives them the rights for good: they can transfer it to someone else or keep it forever. The loan means you can take it back whenever you want - the other guy is just borrowing it (but even better giving them than the disc or powertools- you can actually get this one back!:)

Don't worry, if the plane tips over and points straight down that's your cue to take them out.
If only you had transposed the "re" then it would have been the coolest post/username pairing ever!
Ask all candidates "what present of an individuals income should they pay in taxes?"
If its a present can I decide not to pay if the govenment hasn't been good this year?
Bad summary. RTFA, they have two categories - one for normal cars, one for alternative models.

So selling 70 million units of the same franchise via all the expansion packs is not a loyal fanbase? How was the Sims driven into the ground?
You watch 10K hours of television in 3 months? Impressive! That's like 4 TVs on at a time.

Well, from TFS:
"Steve Schnur, a high-level music exec at Electronic Arts,"
My guess he was probably paid his annual salary to say that.
Tie them into a rant about hacker != cracker and you've got a troll triple word score!

You have to leave your house to have an influence. Sounds like with that much time these WoW players are at an evolutionary dead end.
Someone below mentioned blackberrys. HTC phones also have this (AT&T offers the Tilt and 8200 without a camera, for instance).
How much power is that supposed to have to a team of horses? 20?
Is that when the dang thing works or not? And where do I get the oil from?
You keep your new fangled "combustion engine".
I'll stick to ol' Trigger here, thanks.

Uh, try watching the video and reread my comment a little closer. Don't worry, you'll get there and catch up with every other person who read it!

Yeah, just like this ridiculous article:
