They just make up any old number and say they used a special method to date the stuff. Then they take a big chunk of money from their funders and say it was for carbon dating;o) . Does Carbon dating work for things under water?
Glad someone gets the point. This and every other issue with Windows is everyone's problem. Because our personal information has to be on a Windows System somewhere.
Now if this were a problem with the Casio BOSS, It's NOBODY's problem, HA! I used a BOSS for way too long....
That's the whole point. MS wants the world to use their browser. And the world is saying HELL NO!!
I use Mozilla and it can be configure to use any media player out there. I have mine configured to play all Microsoft formatted media files with Windows Media Player. So no need in Microsoft blocking me from browsing or listening.
Are you missing the point, or does MS pay your bills?
The Senate did not pass the extention because they want to setup a method to tax internet based sales while still banning internet access taxes.
They are changing the rules because many states want a cut of the money that the few successful on-line businesses make.
If on-line businesses must pay sales tax on every sale, then mail-order companies should have to do the same. But I agree that there should be no new internet taxes of any kind. No taxes on sales or Internet access. It is too soon.
Contact your congressperson at Congress.org or via the site of your choice.
I've found that Congress.org is a great site to use when looking for and trying to contact members of Congress that represent my area. Contact your representatives. We have to make a large outcry now to stop this.
Exactly. MS needs to build products that are less vulnerable. Security companies not publishing code will allow MS to slack on fixes. The threat of hackers helps companies stay on their toes and release the best products and not half-step.
What if security companies do not bow to MS's wishes? Will MS use the DMCA to bust them?

Disney CEO Michael Eisner is a Jew. Walt Disney was not. Sorry about that. But still, to think she protest against the US and wears a scarf of a US company that is run by a Jew and I'm sure she would say she does not like Jews. How funny. Personally the Jews are OK with me:o) . So is everybody else. Except these Bert and Mickey fans that want us dead while loving our characters.
The caption on the USATODAY.COM site said " Muslims in front of the parliament in Jakarta, Indonesia, demand that their government break diplomatic ties with the United States. (By Tatan Syuflana, AP)"
Look at the woman in the front on the right of the picture. She has an interesting scarf. It is a Mickey Mouse scarf. Yet she's participating in a protest against the US. And I think Walt Disney was Jewish. Is that funny or what?!!!
So lets say they deem MP3 rippers to be software that can copy Secured Media? The record companies already feel this way and we know about their attempts to make copy protected CDs. Well per this News.com article http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1005-201-7320279-0.htm l Microsoft is planning to team up with some record lables to have WMA files on copy protected CDs. So they could use the "security" clause to disable the CD ripping software. And they are working with record lables to move the world to use the WMA format.
Yea OminRemote is very good. And probably the most programmable of them all. If you have a HandSpring Visor, the folks at OmniRemote make a special Springboard attachment for it, that increases the IR range. I think the Visor/OmniRemote combination is the best bet if you want the best programmable remote control ever.
Now if they make a version that could program RF remotes, that would take it to the next level;o) .
I just wish people would simply not use a site if they did not wish to accept the ads. To block ads subverts the process. If you don't like the ads the best thing to do is not use the site. Not steal content/bandwidth when you know the ad would help pay for it.
Well if you think you can view content and block the ads try http://tale.com/ . They use a pretty simple method to keep those who don't view ads out. Basically, you can't read till the end of any story with ad blocking software turned on.
Here's an old CNN.com article about it http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9907/12/fiction. idg/
They don't use a checksome or anything like that. But their method is pretty nice and will catch on if needed. I know how it's done, but no need to go into details.
I'm glad Imperial Tacohead got the point.
We web site owners would LOVE to NOT HAVE TO USE THESE FORMS OF ADS! But the ad market is down and supply of web pages to place ads on is up. So we have to hit users with more ads to keep the sites free. If Salon was making a boatload of money off subscribers, they never would have thought of an idea like this. They would just stop the free version and live off the paying customers. We web masters have a saying "better to have 100 paying users than 100,000 non-paying users." Because when you get content without paying and don't accept the advertising, you end up costing us money. So we are more than happy if you wish to use another site instead of ours.
Personally, I've been telling web masters for some time that this type of advertising was the next step. And like pop-ups/unders it will be used by more web sites and despite the complaints. Because most web site users are not willing to pay and so you have to take the ad or go elsewhere. And use Ad blocking software if you want. We will simply add code that uses a unique ID and checksum to see if you saw the ad first and if not "POW" you don't get the content. Some sites already do something like this and if ad blocking increases, more sites will do it. So don't think ad blocking will assist you in being a leech. And most of us webmasters are already talking about using this new form or web ads in conjunction with a timer. So if you found some way to block the ad, you would still have a delay before seeing any content. Just to frustrate leeches. Because if you want to be a leech we don't want you on our sites and are more than happy to see you go!!
Yahoo uses pop-unders and is still the most used site on the web.
Get used to it people. If you are not sending a check to the owners of the web sites you use, then stop crying and take the ad.
We would love to give the stuff away, but can't afford to. We have to make money. And for our hard work, we deserve to make money if you care to use/view our stuff.
And we need to boycott UMG because of their plans to make copy protected CDs. The domain name boycottumg.org is available right now. Can anyone head up this effort? This would be a great domain name to use for a site that would educate the public.
Does someone have the means to head up this effort? The domain name boycottumg.org is available right now. It could be the center for education/information on this issue and people could make web banners to connect to this site...
I'M IN!!!
Until a web site has been developed to centralize the effort, I hope that everyone e-mails their friends to Boycott all Universal Music Group CDs, http://www.umusic.com/ (Universal Music Group Website) You can check the web site to make sure you know their product.
We have to hurt Universal NOW because all the labels want to do this. If we take a stand now, they will realize it's a bad idea.
E-mail all your friends to get e-mails going to educate the masses.

Thanks, I was about 2 minutes into the thing and had about 20 to go.

A little off the topic but has anyone else tried to get to MSN Music using a non-IE browser lately? You will be told to go get IE.
Even though MS is opeing up MSN.com on the face-front, there are still portions of the site that are locked out to non-IE browsers.
How about forcing your software on the world and shutting out competition. Is that not industrial terrorism then?
