    What if my autonomous car decides that the action to take that is likely to cause the least harm is to kill the driver?

    That would violate the first rule of robotics.

    I've been an IT professional since '95. Unix admin / DBA / network admin / SAN admin / Release Engineer / etc. etc. This advice really speaks to my career. You have to have passion for technology and you have to be willing to learn new things on your own. I run into so many people who want nothing to do with technology when they go home. I feel they are in the wrong industry.

    It's made for PowerPC Macs, so the rest of us using Intel Macs are out of luck. :(

    You're only out of luck if you want to pirate it natively on your Mac as a Mac App. One still has the option of running it on a pirated Windows XP under a pirated VMWare Fusion.

    Broadband used to refer to the Cable companies' high speed internet based on the technology that it used. However, Verizon FiOS is fiber to the premises, is that considered broadband? What about facilities who's internet connection is a 10Gbps fiber ethernet connection? Is that broadband? I wouldn't be in favor of it just because "Tax on broadband" is too vague.

    I always read it as another "white people suck" movie, but this time, "white people suck in space", which is equally weird, because Cameron is about as white as they come.

    I don't think it is so much "white people suck" as it is "white guilt". Which is too bad because visually the movie was fantastic. Plot wise I felt like I was being lectured to instead of being entertained. I have no interest in buying this movie when it comes out.

    an example of a pricing model that charges different people $0, $5, $10, $20, or $25 for the identical item based on the influence the purchaser wields.

    This is just an observation, but when I hear things like "We got 80% off list price for technology X from our vendor" it makes me wonder what the real value of the product is. After reading this maybe the value of the product is really irrelevant and in our world of commerce it depends on how influential you are. If that is the case how can they patent how the world currently works?

    I remember when "Systems Administrator" was the thing to be. You were the guy that everyone went to for a solution to their problem. Taking pride in an elegant environment where everything just clicked.

    Nowadays getting audited for things like SOX, PCI and HIPAA compliancy is just not fun. I was doing more IT paperwork than IT. That's why I got out of the private sector and I haven't looked back. IMHO legislators have taken the fun out of IT.

    Even though 99% of Unix geeks are men, it is still biologically incorrect to call it 'father'. Not if you stop to consider that AT&T left the project because it was just too damn complicated and created the simpler Unix. So if Multics is the Father then AT&T is the estranged mother and Unix the bastard child.
