Finally Finally Finally - Now it LOOKS like a professional organization.
Great job, whoever did the look and feel be proud.
Wish the rest of the o s community would learn from this example.
The better you build it the less support you would have to have, if you want a user to edit some esoteric config file, then fine you will need a lot of support. If you design your apps with the end user in mind before you write code, then your support costs will be far less if you do a good job
If you want to make a ton of money selling software, you should try to write a web log analyzer that really understands business needs.
Right now there ZIP, ZERO, capable free software that works well for marketing. Don't point out webalizer or analog because both are equally useless to do any real business intelligence (pardon the overused stupid term)
You can look at nettracker, webtrends, hitbox, and urchin.
There is NOTHING right now available to users that compares and is actually useful.
If there is a genius coder here (I'm sure there are tons) run with it. Send me a copy when you make it rich.
I can provide the marketing needs if someone serious is going to take up the programming. HINT PLAN FOR SCALE - GIGABYTES per LOG per day in size.
Donate one day of your time and hold a linux clinic. Tell them to bring their pc's and help them through the install and show them the basics. A few hours of your time would make a world of converts.
DMCA explicitly prevents cheering and or any such activity without the Strict permission of RIAA. Please refrain from typing, singing, kissing, sniffing, and wiping your ass with any music playing in the background, you must license those uses. Your mp3 player is illegal unless its RIAA approved and skips intentionally. All mp3's will now be only.NET enabled and will contain deliberate security flaws that must be allowed because if they were patced you may actually be able to have more than 1 MP3 on your computer at any one time. This is patently illegal and will be punished by repeated playing of music by a 4th grade marching band.
/. it's not what you do its how complex you can make it look.
I don't know jack about linux but I read slashdot anyway because I enjoy the debates. The reasons why you should not buy a winodws or linux machine for an artist are quite powerful.
No real profiling support (that works) exists for anything but mac.
No real color management that works.
All businesses that do output for graphic artists use mac, they know mac, and can point to where profiling problems are occuring because of it.
Photoshop is not the only progran an "artist" needs to use, many other painting programs need to be used and using the same profile all the way across is very helpful.
When sending files to other artists you NEED to know your images are seen close to the same gamma on both computers or she will end up looking like someone that does not know what she is doing.
Ability to leverage the knowledge she has into a job, if she is not MAC literate you might as well not apply. Imagine a linux admin asking what rm -rf does (I learned that here:)
Yes mac's are expensive and yes they tend to drive a linux user bezerk, but this isnt your machine, this is hers. Get her a mac.
btw forget gimp, it is about as close to photoshop as I am to a Sr Linux admin (trust me this is not close) It is ok for a couple quick little things, but needs a hell of a lot of work on the interface. (Hold flamethrower please)
You need to get something that works NOW, not may work when the open source community smashes the corporate strongholds. Photoshop and the graphics world will be the last to fall. Ever try to get a mac user to use a command line hahaha. Too me 14 hours to find out how to get my ethernet card to let me surf the net(redhat 7.2), however, the mandrake install worked great. Go figure.
Can we see a SLASHDOT version of linux that's made to be a secure stand alone webserver (apache, mysql, php) Forget the banner ads I'd pay you some money if you could create an ISO for us/.'ers
I use imici, it lets you use all 4 - imici, msn, aol, icq in one app
I am happy to pay for slashdot

I understand as a website why ads are necessary especially for one the size of slashdot, I am happy to pay a fee to keep from seeing them and still supporting your great site.
I think the net has a anti-payment mentality which unfortunately breeds the kind of annoying business model which we all detest. A few bucks isn't going to kill anyone and still allow this site to be a nice place to read.
You guys are doing a great job and it is appreciated.

No offense but you really don't know what you are talking about. Read what I wrote.

Consistency in licensing is important, whatever they choose I hope they stick with it.
Bravo
