The author apparently thinks "ISP" stands for "Independent Service Provider":
Cable and phone companies rarely compete with one another, and both have effectively discouraged independent service providers (ISPs) like MindSpring or EarthLink from using their connections.
Kinda hurts your credibility if you don't understand something so basic...
Darwin and Mac OS X runs fsck itself at boot and does not ask questions. It seems to handle it well. Darwin will run on x86. Mac OS X is proprietary, but does not have the steep licensing fees that windows does.
The case is not at all the same. Look closer. The components are all moved around and the ventilation is completely changed. The hard drives are vertical!
The undisclosed agency is likely using it for the same thing NASA does - RTGs to power satellites. RTGs could help power secret spy sats just as well as science sats. They provide quite a lot of power and with them you don't need the solar arrays.
And in an amazing coincidence, it was Mr Carrier's grandson "No" who invented the computer modem. He left his mark on his invention with the familiar signoff..

Not relevant. As the space.com article on the fermi paradox explains, FTL or no FTL, the timescales of travelling between the stars are orders of magnitude shorter than the age of the galaxy. You don't need FTL to colonize the galaxy in a 30,000 yrs.
From the space.com article:
It's like having a heated discussion about whether Spanish ships of the 16th century could heave along at two knots or twenty. Either way they could speedily colonize the Americas.
A running program on mac os x does not take up "memory". It will be silently swapped out to disk when the RAM is needed, at no performance cost to you. Seriously.
jobe_br: Yes. But he's not confusing anything. His point is that MS did not bother to implement "Quartz" style smoothing (via a Carbon api such as ATSUI/DrawThemeTextBox) until apple made it rediculously simple via a single bit-flip call, SwapQDTextFlags.
MS would not have bothered if it wasn't so easy to do.
The DiscRecording.framework will become available to third party applications in Jaguar. So I am expecting to see some nice cocoa share/freeware CD burning apps - the framework will make them much easier to do.
Also, there are of course the command-line cdrtools available in Fink..

Man, that wierded me out.
Guess you ahve to be 0wned by MS in order to view the article.

Oh, you're trolling? nevermind.
PowerPlant compiles in project builder. It just requires a few tweaks, apparently.

Don't quit apps in Mac OS X.
This was one of the points in the Wired article. They plan to make this thing affordable.
Huh? Time Warner owns TONS of TV Stations. CNN, HBO, TNT, TMC, WB, etc etc etc. http://www.aoltimewarner.com/
HBO and Showtime are starting to make some REALLY good shows. I think we are likely to see all-shows networks from them soon, with no commercials.
HBO - Sopranos, Sex/City, Six Feet Under.
Showtime - Odyssey 5
etc...
Check out The new Aqua-fied kernel panic screen!
Quite a rant. Feeling threatened?

Actually, from what I understand (ok, someone on #macdev mentioned) that OS9 security updates are already digitally signed.
Install it via Fink - http://fink.sf.net/
