  1. the question is... on Internet Cafe Fined for Letting Users Burn Downloaded Music · · Score: 2

Why would an internet cafe have cd-burners at all? How many people actually go to these places to download an iso of linux or use the burner for any other legal reasons? The internet cafe owners obviously knew what they would be used for, and deserve whatever fines they got.

I wouldn't say amd chips are more reliable, they generally run hotter than comparable intel chips, and amd only recently introduced thermal protection. Don't get me wrong, I like amd chips, I have an xp 1800 in this pc, but I wouldn't say they are more reliable. You have to be very careful when you install one.

  7. Re:Goodbye VHS, Hello VCD on Using Video CDs For Education · · Score: 1

An additional plus is if this takes off, we can add ANOTHER arena of fair use that uses the "evil" blank CD that the RIAA wants to continue to tax and regulate. The more legit uses we can find for blank CDs, the stronger the argument for banishing the CD tax, and tossing out any notion of regulating recordable media.

Actually, VCD's can be seen as another EVIL use of blank cd-r media. Trading of movies or episodes of tv shows in the vcd format is very common on p2p networks/irc/ftp. Mainly because they can be played in most dvd players, and most people have cd-burners, but not dvd burners.

sorry to post this but it needs to be done.

Today Jamie fucked up slashcode bad

    1) He has removed anti page widening code, so slashdot looks messed up in IE again. Good job screwing over most of your users (everyone knows most people who visit slashdot use IE, windows or mac versions)

    2) The karma system no longer uses numerical values... this means you don't know wether you are getting karma added or taken away besides a vague discription. Basically it means editors can abuse users they don't like easier.

Thanks Jamie, you hit two birds with one stone today, making the site look unprofessional on the most used browser in the world, and making it easier to abuse your users...
