    The Southern states tried the same thing in the 60s by closing public schools to prevent integration. It didn't work then either.

    Actually state constitutions do NOT override federal law. Federal Law can violate state prerogatives under the US constitutions 10th amendment but that's still a Federal constitutional amendment which trumps all other law.

    See Civil Rights Act of 1964.

    Uh you did know that china had been communist for 41 years prior to tianamen square? Right?

    The chinese people haven't given up and the china of 2012 is better than the china of 1989. There is more civil society
    in china now than there was 20 years ago. China still has a long way to go but things have changed. Do you even think
    20 years ago we would have even heard about what was going on in these factories???

    Cutting off china won't make china free, it will just make it isolated like we did with North Korea and Cuba.
    Embargoing Cuba has worked out great...oh wait Fidel Castro is still in power.

    Having a "flu" is not like having a cold. Flu can and does kill children and the elderly. The flu shot is very safe because it contains no live viruses. The only problem is in people allergic to eggs.

    Having unvaccinated children come in liability issue.

    We are not talking about 17 lives in 50 years. We are talking about 3 human lives lost during the entire 17 year Mercury, Gemini and Apollo eras with 0 lost during actual flight versus the 25 year shuttle era that lost 2 of the 4 shuttles with 14 crew in 50 flights. The problem is NASA spacecraft should be getting safer, less expensive and more reliable and instead were getting more expensive and less reliable and less safe. Project Constellation was more of the same with senators putting safety considerations secondary to contracts for their home districts.

    Nobody will be prosecuted....too many people already say "If so so doesn't vote my way Im not gonna contribute to his campaign." OR "If you support my bill I will contribute to your campaign" the promises are vague and non-specific.

      On the other hand if Dodd had said "If you support SOPA I will give your campaign $50,000" that would be quid pro quo. A threat to withhold support is not bribery. There has to be an explicit offer or threat. Campaign contributions have a higher standard of proof for bribery allegations than say a private payment.

    and other people use it, then you have the right to be compensated for that use.

    Were not talking about patent trolling, Kodak invented technologies, uses those technologies in its own products, and licenses those techs to other companies.
    Whats wrong with that. Apple wants to use its patents to block competition while Kodak wants people (including Apple) to pay when they use its technology. Kodak historically has treated its customers and its employees very well(with pensions including retiree health insurance).

    It invented most of the stuff, and it licenses its patents to most everyone(some 30 companies at last count including LG Electronics, Motorola, Samsung Electronics and Nokia ). It just wants Apple and HTC to pay up. I would recommend they do because having a nice friendly little Kodak license your patents is better than having
    a competitor acquire kodak. Also the company is using the patents in its own products.

    Actually 18 US states allow first cousin marriages which has nothing to do with islamic law. In fact cousin marriage was legal in all US states prior to the civil war.

    Quite a few people who had good savings still lost jobs, burned through their savings and retirement funds and in the end lost their homes anyway.

    The idea that only bad or irresponsible people lost their homes in foreclosure is magical thinking. You can be a responsible person and still get wiped out
    during a deep recession.

    While we might have hated the DMCA, the "Safe harbor" provision is something most of us can live with and the public can understand.

      Instead of talking about free speech which is an abstraction that most people and politicians don't understand. We should talk about the fact that the so called Protect IP act will encourage frivolous lawsuits, send high paying american jobs overseas, and kill youtube, facebook and twitter and blogging while making trial lawyers rich and clogging up the court system.
