This is off topic, so don't mod me up, but anyway, I suspect it's a bit of both, because I've run other programs under GTK2, and they've had different issues.

I have 2 monitors, monitor 2 is larger than monitor 1. With GAIM, conversations tend to appear in the area above monitor 1, left of monitor 2; the top left corner of the full virtual desktop created by the two monitors. This area just happens to not actually be displayed on any monitor, so I have issues.

With Crossfire, it opens the windows on monitor 1 only. Heaven help me if I want it to start on the second monitor. However, it does open properly positioned on the monitor, and appear in the same dead space as new GAIM conversations. With Crossfire, I suspect the issue is some wierd code that handles the positioning of the window in some buggy window managers under the *nices.

People have been testing 911 long before VoIP became popular. The usual reason was that they programmed one of the buttons on their phone to speed dial 911, and want to make sure it works.

If you have 1024 bits of state, you'll get at most 2^1024 unique results before repeating. Of course, it could be much less with a poor PRNG.

Dual monitors is absolutely wonderful. I'd say it doubles my work efficiency. I have two video cards, an AGP card and a PCI card, which was the way to do things before these newfangled video cards that support two monitors. (There were ways before that, but this isn't a history lesson.) Anyway, I'd suggest plugging a spare PCI video card in your box, and connecting a spare monitor to see how it feels. Once you're in love with it, spring for the fancy dual head card. Of course this assumes that you have a lot of old hardware.

To answer your questions, dual monitors is definitely worth it. I don't know if the dual headed cards are worth the extra cash over a 2 card system, but it probably is. On my system, the resolutions of the two monitors are completely independent. I run one monitor at 1280x1024 and the other at 1600x1200. (17" LCD & 23" CRT) The taskbar only appears on one monitor by default, but Ultramon will give you that second taskbar. Ultramon also allows you to put a different wallpaper on each monitor, and is overall a very nice program.

Anyway, running two monitors is a completely different experience than running one larger monitor.
