It was the Bicentenial Man.And the point it made was very beautiful and i believe perfectly valid. The bsic premise was that we are scared because robots are practically immortal and human beings arent.

And i dont think Human like artificial intelligence is round the corner. To create that we would have to understand our own brains thoroughly and we havent even begun to explore them.

Remember this is 1943,truly electronic computers are still on the drawing boards. An vacumn diode weighs atleast a pound and is clumsy and is quite fragile.

The computehas the dimensions of a small industrual machine and consumes electricity worth anything.

Transistors are still in the future. The same argument was made about the telephone when it was first invented, when people commmented on its uselessness and look at its absolute necessity in modern day life.

I am getting tired of ppl on /. writig abt doing something.

Do something but no stupidities like writing to them.do you think they care more abt your vote than the magabucks from the megacorps.

that only way to fight fire is with fire.Morally very dubious but remember most fights against unjustness were unjust themselves.(Remember 1916 in ireland, the british soldiers who died were not the ones who wanted the irish under english rule but the absent aristrocracy).

Make an example.Select a politicain(not a spelling mistake).Anyone ,but someone who is prominent like Hatch himself.Go after him.Fund His opponents.Organise ourselves and raise FUD against hatch.Pester him, find out his secrets(he is sure to have them),make allegations against him(need not be true, politics never cares for the truth, heck call him a paedophile or something.)Make his life hell.Make him fear what the next morning would bring him.

In short go after him no holds barred.Use all means right or wrong, just or unjust, to make him lose.

And then we wont have to whine about corrupt politicians because they will be afraid to trample over our rights knowing what happened to a collegue of theirs. The meek might inhereit the earth but they will never run it.

Stop believing that anybody listens to reason because in this world of ours might is still right.

And if this sounds morally dubious remember this is war and everything is fair in a war.

Oh and if your mom asks just say they started it.

  11. Travelling time on Son of Concorde · · Score: 1

Even if we were to travel from london to tokyo in 2 hours for most of us it would be of no consequence as we spend a very significant amount of time travelling to the airport ,checking in etc.

from my personal experience i can say that travelling to heathrow from centarl london will take abt 1 hour by tube or anything upto 1hr 30 min by road.

i dont think i had pay a premium to travel fast if i were spending such a huge amount of time prior to boarding the plane just to board the plane.

actual tarvelling time is usually a small proportion of our journey time.

I am not sure if this is the right move.Even if viruses take a big toll on our mental peace by wreaking havoc i think that a small price to pay for what might follow.

I dont think that the router should be doing anything else than routing the data.if today it scans the packets for viruses tomorrow it will be looking at subversive or unwanted content.we dont want a censor on the internet.

Remember these words:Those who sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither.

  20. Oh Good on Kazaa Launches Legitimacy Campaign · · Score: 5, Insightful

I have used Napster, gnutella,Morpheus and Kazaa lite. Why?Not to get anything that is legitimate but copyrighted music. Not because i dont want to spend any money but because i cant get here in london what i want.

I dont have a problem if i want to listen britney boobs and company.their music is everywhere.

But good flamenco and jazz is impossible to get.most of it is simply not available anywhere.

so what am i doing ? violating the rights of the artists or am i keeping their legacy alive, some of those artists long dead.
