The idea is to find out their properties such as can be verified in their rather brief lives to see how far the periodic table and the theory of periodicity holds i.e. do elements in the same group display similar(not same) chemical and to some extent physical properties.
BTW,its believed that certain "islands of stability" of stability exist in the ranges of element nos 127-135 and 180 ish.(Can someone please verify theses numbers please.I am not quite sure abt them). These elements its predicted (and hoped) will be stable i.e. have long half lives.
So the idea is to progress from one element to the next to reach elements whose existence is more than momentary.
I really dont understand the heart burn over American IT jobs going over to India. What's so special about IT comapred to a car maker or a steelworker.at the end of teh day all of them make a product.so where were you when the manufacturing jobs went?Did u protest or did you use the phrase Global Economy?
India should be getting scared of China and east europe now because they arent stupid either.
sorry but getting a visa to work in India is far easier than getting one in US.Unlike in UK one doesnt have to demonstrate a need for the work permit just pay i think some 200 per year
do we achive by landing a man on mars at such a high human and material cost.yes no machine can as yet substitute a human being but that doesnt mean that our ultimate aim should be to land a human being on mars but rather to understand more and more.
i would rather postpone a manned landing in favour of an intensive martian exploration programme.
Street lights are what, 15-20 feet tall? (5-6 meters for our European friends:) Not the easiest place to gain access too.
Not really. Here in England one can see graffiti in all sorts of improbabale places.Overhead bridges, water tanks, outside the upper deck of a double decker bus...the list goes on and on...
Even if we did have 'anti-gravity' dont get your knickers in a twist over it.Gravity induces a potential in a mass and hence even with a working anti gravity device we would have to spend that amount of energy to overcome that potential energy.Unless ofcourse i am misinterpreting the laws of thermodynamics.
In which case we already have an anti-gravity device called a rocket.
There was a very entertaining Arthur C. Clarke story about this about a fusion reactor in australia and some funny happenings with it.(No spoiler but do read the story was real funny)
Office documents use a check sum approach to passwords so one doesnt need the origianl password to unlock the document so long as any password generates the same check sum it will do.
not a very good approach to security but i am the last one to complain.
Well if you want to splurge try 1.Bollinger 61 2.Krug (if possible get a n/v from early 70's) 3.Louis Roederer Cristal 86/90 and their Rose from 90 and 82. 4.Dom perignon try an 84 or 96.
A bit pricey but once you try them you arent going anywhere
Everyday our wise police announce a new gimmick to quieten the people.there is a new "initiative" everyday with new e this and elctronic that but what about some good old policing.
When i report a burglary dont give me a bloody case ref no, come down and investigate it.
Thats the reason we pay 235 per year for the metropolitan police.Every country runs a police service as a public service run out of taxes but we have to PAY for non-policing.
When i report a nuisance i dont want them to cruise flashing their lights and blaring their sirens but to do something about the miscreants, not just chase them off.
So much so for their latest "e"nitiative.

I used to work for a company that wrote banking software. The first version(before my time) was on Wang systems and was written in Basic!!(Well my boss, who wrote it,said that was the most concise language he has ever used.Any way Basic is just a shell for C).
The second version used VAX as Server with DOS on PC's.
Then we migrated to goog ole' Windows and havent rested since.

Stop laying there on your collective asses and do something about it. Contact your congress critter in your home state and bitch until ledgislation so that state and federal contracts can't be giving to companies that outsource overseas.
And what if the other countries in the world stop outsourcing their requirements from USA.How would Boeing,IBM,GE,GM,Ford,Dell,HP,Microsoft,Citicorp,
Bank of America,PWC,KPMG,Sun,Oracle just to name a few react to the massive hits their businesses will take.International trade is a two way street,Bargains like Manhattan you no more get.

The problem with free trade, at least as it exists now is that it doesn't really help the regular American populace at all,
The problem with free trade in its current version is it helps no populace but just the megacorporations.

These are the facts as known to the public ta large in UK.
/. get teh damn facts right before you jump the gun.Learn from the Beeb.
Andrew Gilligan (of the BBC) accuses the govt of sexing up the dossier. His sourse is unnamed and supposedly connected intimately with the govt.
Alastair Cambell,Tony Blair's sort of head honcho, calls the report a fabrication. And notes in his private diary wants to fuck gilligan up.
The Beeb and No 10 have a war of words with both standing by their versions.
Kelly goes to his bosses and tells them that he did tell Gilligan abot misinterpretation of Intelligence data but not in so strong a terms.
A meeting of MOD chaired by PM personaly clears naming of Dr.Kelly as the source.
Meanwhile Dr.Kelly is grilled by two parliamentary Commitees.
At a Press conference Dr.Kelly is confirmed by MOD as the source.
Next day dr.kelly has lunch and goes for a stroll. His body is found next morning. Both police and hutton are convinced that it was a suicide.
So both BBC and Govt are to blame but the govt more so for revealiong his name.
Hutton clears govt of any misdeeds but blames the BBC for jumping the gun and not getting their facts right.
The chairman of the board of governors of teh BBC Greg Davies has resigned.
So

personally i disagree.M$ makes known that its password protection isnt secure.Nice to know that Latex is here but my grandma doesnt use it.
get over it.
M$ makes OS for the masses and by their requirements does reasonably well.
Else apple and linux would have been on a different level altogether.

A bit funny coming from the yankees.
Now i dont speak eton either but atleast my accent isnt a bastardized amalgation of italian, german and irish accents.
OK the above is a flamebait but for a reason.Indians speak with an indian accent and americans with american.Doesnt make either accent wrong or right.
Anyway the right accent would be from the english departments of Cambridge and Oxford.
I know its against the laws of this universe to raed the article but hey the leader says $70 for lots of 100,000.
