So if you made a commitment to stick with them for a while (which is pretty much you're doing when you buy the modem instead of leasing it), you are the one that has to pay more? That makes no sense whatsoever. AT&T should be rewarding people who make the decision to buy their modem and stick with the service for a while, not punishing them. This is the most lame-brained idea they have had in a while.
correct me if i'm wrong (i frequently am) RT/PCR is not really cloning per se, but more amplification of DNA. It is the same procedure used in forensics (and other fields) to replicate a small amount of DNA into measurable quantities. It's not like they are gonna be able to make a tiger out of it, as that would require cell replication.
So does that mean that the WMP web tracking will be on by default and be even harder to find to turn off? If there is no icon on the desktop, i think some users will be unable to stop M$ from tracking their moves. Seems to be a win-win situation for them, and another hurdle in the race for privacy for the average joe.
I've never actually used a PVR (too expensive), but if the commercial sensing and skipping mechanism works the same as it does on my VCR, then to combat it all the networks need to do is change their model for broadcasting them. When commercials come on, the skip mechanisms work by sensing the increase in volume (audio) when the commercials come on. When it senses that, it knows it is commercial time and to skip stuff. If the stations stopped this annoying trend of increasing the gain on commercial broadcasts, these mechanisms probably wouldn't work and people would be forced to manually fast forward through them again. Seriously networks, invest in some normalizing hardware and you won't have as much of a problem. Until they start shackling people to their couches, there will never be a way to stop people from skipping commercials.
Well, there is one way, but let's hope they never ever implement this: banner ads. Yes, they could do what cnn does and make the actual video program only take up 1/4 of the screen and make the rest advertising space. Won't be able to ignore that...
Could more people be figuring out how to simply flick the switch in OS X to make their computer an Apache server? As Apple's Xserve catches on, as well as more people migrate to OS X, Apache stands to gain ground too. I think that is a good relationship.
There are 3 slots, based on my readings, and based on the pictures on Apple's site. There are 2 66MHz/64bit PCI, and 1 that can either be AGP4x or PCI. Hope this helps clear some things up.
I got 3 letters on saturday, all appeared to be "Returned Mail: User Unknown" messages, even though I've never sent any mail to any of the supposed people (one was a k-12 institution address.. I know FOR SURE i've never sent to that). I use MacOSX with Apple's Mail program, so I didn't get infected. I did pass on the letters to my ISP's e-mail abuse address (I did not know what Klez was at the time) and they informed me yesterday of what it was. This is the first virus that has been passed to me (AFAIK), and I've never been so happy to be M$ free as I am after seeing all the stories pop-up about this virus on The Register, CNN, and now/.. I've never had a virus on my computer, and with any luck, it'll stay that way!
This is the same debate that rages on over MP3's, video games, guns, etc. Is the video game to blame for violence, or is the player's lack of self control to blame when he/she goes postal? Is it the software that allows CD's to be converted to MP3's to blame, or the person who posted them to the internet illegally? IMHO, it is always the person who should be held responsible, not the hardware/software or its designers. Alfred Nobel created dynamite to help miners, not to hurt people, and when his invention was used for harm rather than good, people blamed him. Just my $0.02
I had my computer at work rigged up pretty well at my last job. Counterstrike, combined with the crashing power of Windows NT, had a uniqe incompatibility with the Matrox video card drivers I was using, so that whenever I hit the escape key, I'd get the blue screen of death. So, i'd play, and when the PHB would come around, my computer would crash. I had him convinced he was bad luck.:)
I know a couple of bars in town that have juke boxes. Want to bust them too? Wow, you could make a lot of money. Those things have been around since the 50's! All those people listening to one purchased album! It's enough to make you want to rip out your ears in disgust.
I live in West Lafayette, IN, and am on the telemarketing block list. However, this morning, I got a call asking for money from who else? - the Indiana Police Department. Apparently, they don't make enough off of harassing people who go through yellow lights, and they need more money. I don't see how the Police classify as a "not for profit" organization, as they sure seem to try to make a buck. I think the law should apply to the police, too, but apparently it doesn't.
I'd think Apple would be a more likely candidate. Buying Sun would give them easy access into the high-end server market. Also, with Apple's renewed focus on getting Java right, it would seem they alreay have plenty of connections inside Sun.
It could be that a baby born in space would not have such models. I'm guessing that is a learned response of the brain, not an inherited one. I took a Psychology of learning class in college once, and i learned many interesting things. For one, spacial perceptions depend a lot on the environment in which you are raised. For instance, if you live in a rectangular type house, you can generally make good guesses as to the dimensions of other rectangular shaped rooms. If you bring that person into a round room, the estimations are way off. It works in reverse, too. If you live in a round hut your entire life, you won't be able to make good guesses about rectangular rooms. Seems kinda analogous to the gravity story. I say we get some randy astronauts to give birth on the space station, and kinda have a truman show in space. We'll see how that baby will catch a ball then.
Wasn't that in that horrible Keanu Reeves movie Johnny Neumonic? I remeber the pain and suffering of watching him get Ice-T to find the missing picture password piece using the military surplus dolphin living in a bridge.
Hope we won't all have to go through that to unlock our computers.
What, now that Intel says firewire is dead, we need this. I mean firewire isn't on any devices, and isn't a proven technology. And this standard can work without a computer host, like firewire. And this supplies power on the data cable. Oh, wait, intel is dreaming again.
If this causes a good portion of the code of existing apps to be reworked, don't you think it may be rather likely that a few of these developers will go the extra step and port to other platforms too? I hope so, it's always nice to have fair commerce.
Why don't they just get Amazon.com to sue them for infringing on their copyright of one-click buying? Remember that big fiasco a few years ago? They could stop this crap right now if they wanted to...

All sounds good until you put Moulin Rouge in the same catagory as Citizen Kane. Shame on you.
Whatever crack they're smoking, i want in on it. It really seems to make reality look much different.

Ah, yeah, sounds like it would work to me, thanks for the info. Seems a bit similar to how macrovision works on the video signal, right?

Now why that post wasn't mod'ed down for being offtopic I'll never know...
I see one post and I already can't get at the site. Anyone care to make a mirror who has it in their cache?

No seriously, if there isn't a bigger virus then Windows XP, i don't know what is. The DOJ can get em for that!
And my girlfriend was really looking forward to finally having her digital vibrator secure.
