Maryland DOES have a library privacy law that forbids the library from sharing information that identifies individual users, etc.
Those computers are accessed using the patrons library card (or a temporary access card) that identifies the usages to an individual. *snip*
That is one of the reasons i stopped checking books out at our local library. Never know who might want to grab those records 10 years from now. Stealing them ( and returning them later of course ) protects ones privacy much better.
Too bad its too late to hide my existing history of things that were considered benign 20 years ago, but now get you put on a list for wanting 'forbidden knowledge'
This isn't much different then demanding one's papers on the street randomly, 'just to check you out', even when you are just minding your own business.
That is no longer true. They do care what you are doing, and who you are doing with, and how much you did it. You contract will stipulate rather clearly what you can and cant do.
And if they don't like it, they throttle/delete/report you.
I think its safe to say its not just my personal observations, as most religions will have some difficulty if life is found elsewhere then their 'blessed' earth.
It's going to get a lot worse. Soon even your personal life will be invaded:
Want that home loan? Well you have to agree to be monitored. Want that job? Better not be on any IP 'watched list' ( much as bad credit can ruin you now )
Random street searches " we see you have an ipod, that is grounds for search. Do you have your licenses for every song on here in your possession?"
Its not a great event. It only proved what everyone already knew, both by theory and common sense.
We are all made from the same building blocks, so on a rather similar planet, not so far away from us, finding water there is not really that amazing of a event. ( cool yes, amazing, no )
To me, when we find primitive life there it will be the same sort of "well, no kidding there is some sort of life there"..
Sure space is cool.. and so are the expeditions.. But we could have done something even more cool on the mission if we went out there looking for what everyone knew was there.
Hell, by now we could have people running around on Mars instead of wasting it on finding water.
5) The library director was totally within his rights to say "sure, take them." Did he do the right thing? Who cares?
If he did the wrong thing, you should care, or you are part of the problem
Right, polices get you fired, not arrested.

So the librarian has no regrets for tossing out the 4th amendment.
Sure its a public facility, but you would think that a librarian would be a bit more concerned about protecting freedoms.
Who gets to decide my name is obscene?
This isn't much different then demanding one's papers on the street randomly, 'just to check you out', even when you are just minding your own business.
This is 'presumed guilty' at its finest.
Umm they decided that when they were first formed.

This isn't the 90's anymore bucko.
I think its safe to say its not just my personal observations, as most religions will have some difficulty if life is found elsewhere then their 'blessed' earth.
I think its more legit then comcast, as i really do think the 3G network is limited currently.
In comcasts case, its just oversell and poor management.
Well, they banned P2P due to AT&T network limitations, so its only logical they would kill this off too, for the same reason.
I don't see anything really sinister here. Irritating perhaps, but not sinister. And tossing in the DRM buzzword is a real stretch.
While i realize you are just bush-bashing, that same statement holds true for a surprisingly large number of humans.
You must be new to government operations.

I would expand that to 'its about control of knowledge'. Music is just the vehicle to get it accomplished.
The challenge alone would be meaningless if the supreme court didn't feel like hearing the case.
They could ( and often do ) just ignore cases so they don't have to make a decision.
Who's god?
We really need to kill off this nanny state we live in before the next generation is too afraid to go outside at all.
I disagree, in this case common sense is not useless.
Comparing 2 things of rather similar history, proximity and makeup and making a common sense conclusion based on that is good enough.
Sort of like you don't need to see a female bleed to determine they are similar to a male in biological function.
Or that the surface of mercury is hot due to its closeness to the same sun.
Its all common sense logic.
Then it isn't hate speech.
"she is ugly and doesn't deserve to live" "i think she has herpes" " i heard xyz"
How about those?
Nothing keeps a lawyer at bay, when they smell blood.
The real question is will the changes be enough to keep them on the correct side of the legal judgement that will eventually be passed.
Too bad they cant countersue afterwards.

Just to prove common sense?
