    Why should it have to be fair? if one segment of the population just happens to commit and get caught more often, thats just how it is. There isn't some hidden agenda or magic happening.

    If they want fair, they can stop committing crimes..

    Now, i fully agree there might be individual officers that improperly profile ( and don't forget some profiling is more then proper ), but the overall system does not.

    Ok, continuing with your unprovable premise, perhaps the blacks are just not as smart and tend to get caught more?

    Anyone that sees the 'lopsided' amount of black people in prison compared to white really needs their head examined. There is no sinister conspiracy involved here, its just how the chips are falling, for whatever reason.

    Older machines are often built better than newer faster stuff.

    Cite please. All of my equipment has only become more reliable with each generation.

    You will find many that disagree with that statement. I have seen very little improvement in reliability over the years.

    What is happening is that things are swapped out so fast now to keep up with the perpetual upgrade-treadmill they don't have a chance to break down. But keep them around a while past their warranty, and they go up in smoke. While my apple II still is chugging away with not one failed component.

    FreeBSD would do better for you on lesser hardware. It tends to be more efficient.

    Sure, safety IS important, but id rather see the billions poured into increasing fuel efficiency ( or ditching fossil fuels totally ) first.

    What country do you live in where votes actually count?

    Sure you can get a person elected with votes, but its the $ and promises of power that gives them their marching orders once in office. ANd its got nothing to do with you and your vote. ( unless you happen to be a billionaire and are contributing to the campaign )

    Taking his PC i think was a bit overboard unless they had hard evidence that some crime was committed with the PC. The judge should never have permitted that warrant to go thru.

    Collecting the public posts of images off myspace was more then justified however.

    Could have gone both ways, depending on the pictures.

    If they were of him serving meals at the local homeless shelter or rescuing trapped animals during a flood, it would have worked for the defense instead.

    So yes, the topic title is spot-on.

    If the viewing was intentional they possessed the bits and thus the 'object', since this society currently believes in legal IP rights.. Doesn't matter if it was 'shredded' afterwards, the intent was still there and the crime was still committed. Might be hard to prove it was viewed however.

    if it was a 'walk by' ( to use your 'storefront analogy " or 'non requested popup', then you might have a case, but ive heard that even just holding the picture unintentionally in your hand could be considered a crime.. Which i think is ludicrous. But then again, holding a joint, even if my accident is jail-able so there is some sort of twisted correlation.
