"You can get valuable feedback by having outsiders review your products, but this goes a bit further. They're talking about having outsiders in on actual design meetings and brainstorming sessions"
So was i.. And it seems so basic to me that everyone should have been doing it. ( but i realize often times that people 'develop' in a vacuum ) I always include the end users along the way, and readjust my thinking to suit them since they will be using it, not me. I also spend the time to at least understand their business before i do anything.
I'm all for going back to analog 'media'. Sure digital music and video has its place for the sake of convenience, but i never agreed with the idea of replacing analog totally.
As far as your little joke about computers, I'm also all for going back a few years to computers that arent in bed with DRM and someting we had control over, or could even build ourselves. ( "you will have to pry my Atari ST from my dead cold hands" sort of thing )
I thought having 'non technical' people review products was common practice ( unless you are from china ). I have always done that. Including their input in the beginning and throughout the life of development is also standard.
It wont stop as long as these corporations can keep buying the laws. So until the system is changed, we are stuck with it. And just think, as more countries move towards some form of capitalism, they will get to share in the grief as well.
If the CD has ANY rights protection on it, then the DMCA kicks in and your right to rip goes up in smoke.
Sure, fair use of the end music still applies, but you cant legally get your music into that state due to having to 'break' the copy protection first. Is one reason we are being forced to digital TV in a year or so.
Mandatory pay-per-play is their next move. Then criminalization. Once that is complete, the industry will collapse and they will be gone and out of our hair.
However, its too bad to hear that they are now modifying the actual source too. At least before you had a choice between quality and convenience. ( LP or CD or MP3 )
I do realize that you do lose several of your rights once you are convicted of a crime, but this is a bit over the top since the internet is so ingrained into todays society, like going to the mall or walking down the street.
In many cases this will condemn the person ( and entire family perhaps ) to a perpetual life on the welfare roles, or back into crime just to survive. In today's world its hard to get/keep a decent job with out legal access. ( email is pretty much a de-facto standard in business today, good luck finding or keeping a real job if you cant even email people )
What would make more sense is to ban them from 'child areas' much as they do with schools where you have to stay out side a particular radius ( i guess that means you cant pick up your own kid... ). Perhaps some sort of monitoring, like they do with the people-beepers for those on home detention.
And once you have served your time, haven't you paid you debt to society? Why are you going to be persecuted into the ground for the rest of your life? If so, why bother letting people out at all?
The average consumer saw a really cheap PC. I doubt 90% of them actually understood it was missing the 'windows tax', took it home and pronounced ' it looks funny ', 'why isnt xyz game working'.
These days billboards are ignored by so many anyway, i don't really see this as an effective use of funds. we are bombarded by so much nonsense now, this will just fade into the background.
Geesh, that's a nice image. I wonder if he normally speaks that offensively at work.
This is why you don't post under your own name. At least you can plausibly deny it if they are smart enough to figure out who you seem to be.
Without a court case and a warrant they wont be able to prove it was you.
But once the technology is mature, tomorrow it will be mandatory.
I think its one of those theories that will never really be tested, as governments cant keep their fingers out of the pie.
Because most people arent talented enough. And its sort of hard to play your banjo in the car on the way to work :)

Does RH officially support Fedora now? Or is it still their 'sandbox'?
If that is the case, then there is still no 'threat'.
True, pure unencumbered free markets are controlled by monopolies.

No, as those were analog sources. They cant use the DMCA in those cases. Why do you think there is this big push to 100% digital?

Vindicated again.

Even if this gets out, they will just move subnets and still catch 90% of the non technical users.
This really should be brought up to the courts.
But it also says they wont support 3.5.x which really is irritating for us KDE users.
Good thing FreeBSD 7. will be out by then.
Its a tradeoff.

You get fired and go on welfare since you wont ever work in your profession again, at least in New Jersey..

Its just another day of the month. Just happens to be a day off from work for many people. ( not all, but many )
Just arrest everyone that has a computer as you know they are doing something illegal.
These days billboards are ignored by so many anyway, i don't really see this as an effective use of funds. we are bombarded by so much nonsense now, this will just fade into the background.
He's got far to much $ to spend.
No, seriously, shoot for a room you close up.
Don't forget an independent HVAC too. And seriously consider sound deadening tiles. All those fans add up.
Other then that, a small desk for your laptop, and a bench for test machines.
