So was i.. And it seems so basic to me that everyone should have been doing it. ( but i realize often times that people 'develop' in a vacuum ) I always include the end users along the way, and readjust my thinking to suit them since they will be using it, not me. I also spend the time to at least understand their business before i do anything.

I'm all for going back to analog 'media'. Sure digital music and video has its place for the sake of convenience, but i never agreed with the idea of replacing analog totally.

As far as your little joke about computers, I'm also all for going back a few years to computers that arent in bed with DRM and someting we had control over, or could even build ourselves. ( "you will have to pry my Atari ST from my dead cold hands" sort of thing )

  10. Common sense? on The Curse of Knowledge Bogs Down Innovation · · Score: 2, Informative

I thought having 'non technical' people review products was common practice ( unless you are from china ). I have always done that. Including their input in the beginning and throughout the life of development is also standard.

No, as those were analog sources. They cant use the DMCA in those cases. Why do you think there is this big push to 100% digital?

It wont stop as long as these corporations can keep buying the laws. So until the system is changed, we are stuck with it. And just think, as more countries move towards some form of capitalism, they will get to share in the grief as well.

  13. Re:2 words on RIAA Now Filing Suits Against Consumers Who Rip CDs · · Score: 4, Insightful

If the CD has ANY rights protection on it, then the DMCA kicks in and your right to rip goes up in smoke.

Sure, fair use of the end music still applies, but you cant legally get your music into that state due to having to 'break' the copy protection first. Is one reason we are being forced to digital TV in a year or so.

Mandatory pay-per-play is their next move. Then criminalization. Once that is complete, the industry will collapse and they will be gone and out of our hair.

  19. Basic Rights? on New Jersey Bars Sex Offenders From the Internet · · Score: 1

I do realize that you do lose several of your rights once you are convicted of a crime, but this is a bit over the top since the internet is so ingrained into todays society, like going to the mall or walking down the street.

In many cases this will condemn the person ( and entire family perhaps ) to a perpetual life on the welfare roles, or back into crime just to survive. In today's world its hard to get/keep a decent job with out legal access. ( email is pretty much a de-facto standard in business today, good luck finding or keeping a real job if you cant even email people )

What would make more sense is to ban them from 'child areas' much as they do with schools where you have to stay out side a particular radius ( i guess that means you cant pick up your own kid ... ). Perhaps some sort of monitoring, like they do with the people-beepers for those on home detention.

And once you have served your time, haven't you paid you debt to society? Why are you going to be persecuted into the ground for the rest of your life? If so, why bother letting people out at all?
