Pushing down the default page via GPO sonuds pretty responsible to me. It helps prevent users default pages getting hijacked with porn sites, among other things.
Part of It's job is to protect the corporate computing assets and keep them running properly for the needs of the job. If that happens to step on your personal wants, then thats too bad. The PC is there for work, not as a toy for you. You have your personal toys at home.
"only real knowledge of Linux is "if it's so good, why would you give it away for free"?"
If that is your *only* barrier, then go to redhat/etc and buy it. Problem solved. ( i would venture to say you have other barriers too, but havent noticed them yet )
That is a totally different situation. If you were able to install anyting on your own as an 'end user', their security is inadequate in the first place.
Why is it legal for the press to intentionally misrepresent themselves when i as a private citizen cant? If tried this it would be considered fraud at the very least.
I dont see how "freedom of the press" extends to lying, regardless of how 'noble' the cause might be. ( not that i think it is a noble cause, but im sure others do )
Oh, i do believe in ownership. The problem is that you dont own the 'property' contained in the code, They do.
You own the worthless piece of hardaware that doesnt function without it. Mod that *hardware* all you want, but under the current set of laws, touch the firmware and you commit a crime. ( and if you happen to get a FPGA based piece of hardware, you really have nothing since its almost all code.. )
Now that said, if you read my other post, i actually agree with your view of ownership personally. I also feel its mine to do as i please. The problem is the LAW doesnt. And until you realize the law doesnt agree with you, and you stop using the stupid bizzare excuses to justify it, you remain an idiot. Just because you want to wish away the law and the judge, it wont happen. Only by getting the law change will the rules change, and pretending it doesnt exist wont get it changed.
Modding normally involves some sort of change to the firmware. I never said 'pirating software'. Just modifying it is against the EULA. Any use of the firmware/software that isnt permitted by them isnt allowed legally.
Now, for the record i personally feel its *my* box to do with as i please once i fork over the cash and take it home. But its not what i think that matters here, its the court.

They have moved to it as well, as ChaCha is a local Indiana company ( last i heard ).

The first person that got infected wiht something would bitch that Microsoft didn't do enough.
Not that im fond of them either, but it seems they cant win either way these days.
There are reasons to block it, and anything else the user wants to install on their own.
And simply renaming worked? Your IT department is pretty inept.
"I will encrypt all my communications"
Email is easy, but are there any of the current crop of 'giveaway' cell phones that support it?
I dont believe in giving up libertes for some imaginary increase in safety.
I also dont appreciate my car spying on me. And for the record, i dont drink at all.. let alone while driving and i still think this is a bad idea.

Who cares?
No, not trolling, asking a serious question. What end user really cares its 'illegal' in some jurisdictions for them to use their PC as they wish?
And turned it into a bot/ftpserver.
You go find everyone that accessed my pc and did things without my permission.
Oh, they also must have got my wifi too, as its not encrypted.
Try an net install of Freebsd. Sure its not coming off the same disk, but it 'feels' like it.
"Data is not logged, nothing is stored in the national police computer"
And you really believe this?
Time to start wearing a fake beard anytime im outside, just to piss them off.
I dont agree, i feel they have an obligation to be upfront. If they arent, if personaly feel they are misleading people in a fraudulent manner.
May not be a legal issue, but its how i feel about the issue.
If they are misrepresenting themselves at jiffy lube, its just as wrong.

No, most of the US doesnt have it better.
We have close, unless you use it then you get a nasty phone call telling you to stop.
Pay per-view for everything, everytime, is the goal.
Scumbags
If it wasn't for Linus, i would have continued on my path of a minix-like OS for my AtariST. ( no, not MiNT, but it was rather similar )
But noooo. because of him i jumped ship to the i386 and lost interest in the 68xxxx.
Could have been MY name up in lights.. thanks a bunch!

You are an irrational idiot. No value in continuing this with you so I wish you luck explaining yourself to a judge sometime down the road.
Have a nice day.
No, more like pissed off.

You need to read your contract/EULA better.
Its a right to use contract for the $ you paid. You only recourse for not agreeing is returning it for a refund ( also stated in the contact )
