Except its NOT a opensource FPGA project. Its an open source Software project, to run on a FPGA.
The hardware is a commercial product.
I think a year for 'obsolescence' of a product generation isn't too accurate, more like 5 years.. i can still buy xilinx products 2 generations back ( or the current compatible generation )
Since when has the US Constitution meant much to the government? For as long as i have been alive they just 'interpret' it away when its inconvenient to them.
The whole idea of changing the rules then penalizing you from actions in the past should be banned.
How the hell are you supposed to predict when congress will get a burr up its butt add that to your future business plan so you don't get put out of business ( or goto jail )?
Well, it is Theo remember.. what else would you expect?

And still IP restrictive.
No thanks. THere are far too many other cross platform languages that arent a potential litigation trap.
It ceased to be a display of talent and achievement generations ago and was turned into a media/business circus.
Sad really, is there anything left that greed hasn't yet corrupted?
Sure they are cool, but this is only some guys throwing some IP at a commercial eval board.
Nothing to get overly exited about, really.
( and i thought microblaze was $$ anyway.. there are free alternatives out there, such as Leon3, or OpenRISC )
Tie the media files to an individual.. And report their use.
Payola.
I was being sarcastic.
Sounds like a new project: "distributed mouse brain"
Sites like this could simply be 'blacklisted' if no ISP wil pick them up due fears of prosecution.
Good way to restrict 'evil' information dissemination to the masses.
What is next, 'hate' sites being cut loose? Or 'independent freedom talk' being removed from the digital landscape?
Time for a class action suit by the artists that arent signed up. The RIAA is trying to take ownership illegally of their works.
Thats because the media controls it, decides what we do and dont see/hear.. yep, they own it.
It always has been, pirating what the rest of the world uses is cheaper then trying something 'different'.
Not saying its the better choice, but its the 'cheaper' one in the long run if you want to compete.
I guess that means we should be putting people like Steven King in prison too, he must be a threat because he writes weird things.
Just because you are weird by someone else's definition doesn't make you dangerous. Grrrr!
I saw this coming. Time to persecute anyone that is 'different'. It will also open the flood gates for harassment and discrimination.
My comment was more sarcasm then anything else. I know its banned in writing, but that doesnt stop our leaders from ignoring it.

The reason they arent sold by the same 'marketoids' as you put it, is that they are not the same product.
One is business class with guaranteed QoS. The other, isnt.
No, i really think its about bandwidth.
I doubt the school really cares about what you are pushing across, but they DO care that it kills the lines. Bandwidth does cost money.
Ancient history.
That was Dwarwin's mascot, not BSD's mascot Beastie.. There is a subtle difference.
Go to hell if they think spying on their customers is ok.
I never meant that, I only meant that anything else seems to be a commercial deadend due to the market dominance.
Having a compatibly layer will help prevent it from being a doomed project/product.
So i assume its software compatible with 90% of the code that the 'general public' uses?
It did say 'general purpose' and if you try to create something beter but different, you get slapped down eventually ( like PowerPC Apples. )
