Not that the government really needed a reason to look at your data, but this was a stupid move that just opened their doors wide open to a lot of things.
I wonder what will happen when they are forced to censor data that doesnt originate on their network but simply passes across. ( since they are no longer a common carier, this is likely to happen sooner then later )
What about a signed contract being required before you can use any software. Be it on the job to get that fancy new laptop, or something you buy from the store to use at home. You have to sign the contract before you even get to walk out with the box.
If that isnt enforceable, then nothing in the world is and its a free-for-all.
You are right for th emost part about the shift 'back', but people still will want to carry music around with them. And that recorded music wont be 'free'.
Beacuse of that, I dont think 'recorded music' will dissapear, it will just shift to the artists direct control instead of a 'association'. the need (?) for an industry to fund budding artists to get them started is gone.
"Wait a minute, is ie7 100% backwards compatible with ie6? I seem to recall it isn't. Then, how can Microsoft push it in updates? what about people relaying on the browser for intranet web apps that can break?"
its not the first time a microsoft update has broken existing applications, under the excuse of 'better security'.
Now currently they arent all interconnected, but it wouldnt be hard to take that 'extra step'.
And it doesnt really prevent crime. thats just marketing to get you to accept the invasion. It might help to id the person that mugged you later, but they wont stop just because it might be recorded.
Take that one step farther, and you might get denied purely due to your spending habits or your friends. "we dont approve of those books you buy" or "well, we see you have friends that live in the wrong side of town, and you visit them often"
Dont forget insurance rates going up "we see you drive often in a higher crime area then you live, so we will be rasing your rate to compensate"
Yet another example of what is going on. ( and no this is not bash on bush, its a general statement, as anyone in office is taking advantage of things )
"The crux of the deal, to Wickline, is the fact that Microsoft is promising not to assert its patents against individual non-commercial developers."
I thought orginally they said they wouldnt do it at all and all the patents were just for their 'protection' ? Did they change their mind? ( not suprising if they did ).
Only problem with that analogy is that you assume mutual destruction. Microsoft has enough cash in the bank to still come out on top if full war is declared.
And since they apparently dont care about public opinion ( marketing spin can fix any of that ) anything is possible.
Sheer count is nothing. Its sort of like counting cars.. sure there may be a mind boggling amount of them, but how many of those are actually drivable and arent sitting in a junk yard?
IS free speech. This is where it starts. ( and remember, that we here in the US dont have a democracy.. never really have.. we have a Representative Republic. However, free speech is still its cornerstone.
Thus the reason for the first amendment.
After that, you have to be able to stand up and fght for your rights.. thus the 2nd amendment... This is the mortar that holds the stone of free speech together.
As Verizon just blew it.

You know, not everything in the world is a conspiracy. sometimes timing in life is just strange.

Good thing i dont use my real name on here, isnt it.
In large US cities, its the same way.

Both.
Doesnt seem to be a right in their country. Oh well, it is their country, their rules, nothing to see here.
So, not only are they going to wipe out SUSE, but Xandros, Linspire. etc etc.
Going to be a busy year for Redhat.
Freedom soon follows.

I dont think they ever really quit.. Just went underground a bit.
Looks like they cant turn a profit there. They are a corporation, its all about bottom line.
Sheer count is nothing. Its sort of like counting cars.. sure there may be a mind boggling amount of them, but how many of those are actually drivable and arent sitting in a junk yard?
You are tainted for life and your career as a programmer lies in the hands of microsoft.
It could be as 'innocent' as popup ads for those that mistype a URL.
It doesnt automaticaly have to be something with illegal intent.
And the rules are *always* followed, arent they.
Would only take one infection of some PC to start broadcasting content . Just what we need.
Seems microsoft has chosen another target to 'embrace, extend, destroy'.

Have a nice day. I can see this is pointless, your mind is far too clouded to continue this.
Here is a simple example for you. Which president signed the Brady bill, restricting ones 2nd amendment rights?
Ill give you a hint, it was the last one that was impeached.
Now, which party did he belong to?
Figure it out yet? Or are you far to blind to see the truth?
