    Yes, but when it was first made avaialble to the PC back then, it was not the same thing.. Not even close.

    Current incarnations of GEM ( openGEM for example ) are much closer i agree.

    Dont forget that the 'real' book you own cant be 'banned' out of existance by DRM magic. ( or simply 'edited' to fit the 'current model' of the facts )

    Once you have the paper in your hands, you can always read it long after the information is considered 'wrong'.

    i think they have been slowly DEvolving over the years, becoming more bloated and complex. They are starting to outreach the average joe.

    We have had simple and effective GUI's in teh past, like Atari's GEM, and Apple's Newton. Simple and effecitve. but they were tossed aside for much larger and complex systems, requiring more hardware and brain power.

    Why not talk to your boss about it, and help him out as a partner? It doesnt have to be 'you against him', you are both in it for the same thing. Treat it as such.

    Just page people every couple of hours, If they dont get a page, they know something is wrong and can track you down via your GPS phone.

    Might not be perfect, but better then what you are doing now.

    ( im sure other professional 'life alert' sort of things are out there with 24/7 monitoring, but doubt insurance would pay for it )

    But i doubt it would genereate much thrust. Its a lot like the ion engines nasa has.. You toss out charged particles from one end and you get tiny amounts of thrust.

    Millions of users have no clue. So they will just get used to being locked in to their OWN content.. Paving the roads to a more restrictive world later on.

    Its too bad the old laser disks died out, they had a analog version .. but it was MUCH more rugged then vinyl records.
