Centralized DRM management would help them in this, as they could magically delete any documents that you arent supposed to have anymore. And if you try to read it, you get snitched on by your own PC.
That works great, until you want the OSX interface, or want to run a commercial application that isnt offered to anything other then OSX and Windows. ( which is most that *businesses* need )
Sure it would be nice if you could do it, but OSS is no where near offering mainstream business an alternative *desktop*. And by the time it does, PC's will be so locked down that all we will get to run will be force fed us by the 'big players' that have bought in to the DRM control syndicate.
This is why E-Books are so wrong, and we should be fighting to retain dead tree verisons..
Yes, i know they can still find ways to track what you read, ( rfid, cameras ) but at least they have to work at it.
Who does this stuff get reported to? Who gets to find out you read a 'bad ebook' and sick the HSD ( or other 3 lettered agency ) on you for 'restricted knowledge'?
Lets see, i paid good money for a product that i was lied to about. Yes, the correct option would be to sue. that is what the civil legal system is for. They commited fraud, and should be held responsible.

I would agree with you, unless you restrict access to 'trusted individuals' only. Then its not much different then sending a spreadsheet around the office for updates.

Yet another reason to retain dead-tree books.
Hey its their service, let them ban whatever they want.
If they get out of hand, people wont use their services. Problem solved. Market forces rule.
It requires changes to the guest Kernel. Dont expect microsoft to do this for us, they have nothing to gain by doing that.
Its a bigger deal then that, when you consider that most everything in the civilized world is tied to 'software' either directly or indirectly..
It could cripple the worlds economy.
