From the Babylon 5 entry: "Some may compare it to 'Star Trek DS-9' but with a better plot and cast - you be the judge." I am no fan of DS9, but I would never compare even my worst enemy unfavorably to Babylon 5! Bleh!

A slow (or in this case rather quick) slide into mediocrity is the hallmark of exclusivity (read: monopoly).

I would have thought it might take more than one cycle for the lack of impetus for innovation to come to fruition, but hey, never underestimate EA.

  9. This sounds like UTTER SHIT to me... on New Model Solves Grandfather Paradox · · Score: 1

...and I have a physics degree from UC Berkeley.

One of the greatest errors in science is the over-extrapolation of low-level models/theories, traversing many levels of scale, completely disregarding the assumptions and implicit models of the initial context. It's just foolish. It makes otherwise respectable people (and theories) look like total asses (or utter shit), and I don't know why real scientists put up with it.

    To maintain their funding, perhaps?

That being said - I haven't looked deeply into yet, so who knows?

  10. How does this happen? on Netscape 8 Breaks IE XML · · Score: 1

  17. buzzflash.com & bartcop.com on Your Favorite Political Weblogs? · · Score: 1

Buzzflash isn't a blog per se, but it is a presentation of selected news stories with brief commentary - which is what I consider blogging to be at its core. It is widely considered to be the most respectable progressive news filter.

BartCop is a more traditional-style blog with rantings of a particular individual - very funny and intelligent. What's the kicker? The blogger in question is a redneck okie from Tulsa, Oklahoma - and he's a hard-core liberal! Also includes "BartCop Radio" for subscribers.

WTF?! From what I understand, these abuse photos were taken way back in January! That's a lot more than an hour.

What is being said about the shortening of the photojournalism cycle is still true, I just think this is a case of a bad example.

The date of the pictures is a seemingly minor detail, but I think it's very important. Little innacuracies like this perpetuate broad misunderstandings of important events.

  23. Pointless on Let's Kill the Hard Disk Icon · · Score: 1
I'm not really one to flame, but that article is the stupidest quasi-academic bullshit I've ever read. It seems as though the author has founded his argument on an issue of confusion that doesn't really exist. It sounds like a *nix zealot smoked a little too much hash and wrote and article without really going into the concepts.
