The UK has been the testbed for the next best pleb-survailence "security" systems for years. It gets set up there, people whine and moan about it. The clamor dies down and life gets somewhat back to normal. Then you start seeing it in the states. "See, the UK isn't a super authoritarian police state yet. We'll be fine. Plus, its great to track Terrorists (TM) and Criminals (TM). Great security, you know.
Actually, I am intersted, considering I already have lived 3 years in Berlin. (Father was in the US military stationed there.) My only problem is I only can speak English. Although, I can understand some of a few other languages when spoken. I suppose I could goto Great Britain, except their government is already busy brown-nosing ours.
Yeah, they've got their act together. A 2 million Aussie buck fine against the RIAA is like giving a guy that explodes a car bomb a parking ticket and a stern warning.
Without consulting any legal resources, please read any current end user licensing agreement for non-free software and tell me what it says. Feel free to pause at any time to get a bottle of asprin.

I believe there is a 99.99967% chance that there is no way in hell any meaningful punishment will ever come to McBride or any of his co-conspirators, except posibly some middle manager that did not cover his ass and gets used as a scapegoat.
My psychic intuition tells me a large concentraction excists in an area near the Virginia-Maryland border. Why be hated, hunted, and persectuted when you can be elected, pampered, and worshiped. You still get the money, too.
Actually, as an introvert (assuming I understand the term correctly enough) I find it easy to converse with people in 1 on 1 situations. My problem occurs in the presense of small social groups, where there may be a few, several, or even almost all the members I am on good terms with. However, I have noticed a tendancy for groups to have thier own agenda which supercedes the member's in some situations. This is what I cannot deal with, this duality of motivations. Particularly when the group is hostile towards me.
Flashback to highschool where I could have a normal conversation with just about anybody in my class. (No, I don't mean factspewing Dorkish. Although, I did that one, too.) As soon as another person came in the room or started to pay attention, suddenly I went from an equal to a little dog for everyone to kick around.
This has become a cronic problem for me, as I am constantly paranoid of the prospect of someone switching faces on me and planting a knife in my back, sacraficing any hopes of even a casual hi-jim-hi-bob relationship to the peer group gods. No, I don't think it is some mass conspiracy or anything whacky like that. But, it happens so much, the tendancy cannot be denied. And a group attacking a single person can be overwhelming, even if the members are only giving token hostility.
On an interesting side note, I seem to recall a rare case of a russian serial rapist where the blood type of his jism did not match his overall blood type. The police couldn't nab him until they found more direct evidence.
Holy God! I am paying $54 a month for 768/128 cable and it is the cheapest deal in the area without going to dialup. The agency I am working for right now is paying ~$480 a month for a 256 fractional T that runs to a branch office 2 miles away. And they are leasing it from the local babybell (Verizon). How the feck can they get one for $50 a month, even if they have to get 2 (one for each office)!
Gee, I wonder if Microsoft will count the full retail price per copy of their software or the few cents per CD to produce and ship a few extra. $800 per copy of MS Office XP (TM) versus the $0.05 cents it costs them to give out for free is a slight difference.
I have not only tried it. I use this on my man personal computer. It is the first distro I ran across that wasn't hell to get on the internet and be able to do something useful in the GUI.
My Complaints: #1. It uses/usr instead of/usr/local as its prefix which makes compiling and installing stuff a pain in the ass. #2. Video modes for the desktop cannot be switched without restarting the xserver. #3. Thier version of Mozilla keeps turning on popups for some dumbass reason. #4. It really should come with mplayer. #5. You absolutely _have_ to get the devtools iso as well in order to install any extra software.
Tip: go ahead and download the beta build (should be around 84 or 85 now.) It is much more advanced than clunky old build 46 (stable).:P
We went through all this crap back when Lycoris released build 43 and finally got attention as a viable contender for the Linux desktop market. Half the damn posts where "3ww, 100k$ 1|k3 Wind0z3! T3h sUx0r!" Get a grip, its just KDE2 with a similar picture as the default background. The most it comes to copying windows is by arranging its "control panel" to look similar to Windows XPs.
What? Do you pricks think everyone should only have a term? Maybe run a tablet with 1 key so you can input commands in oh so 133t binary? If you want to bang your head against the wall and jerk off to your command prompt, use the approprate distro and let the people that like to actually use a GUI have one that works for them.
Actually, extreme bottom left. Communism and Fascism AKA Corporatism are the left and the right (respectively) of Authoritarianism. Communism is not extreme left because communist government does not offer nearly as much support and freedom for its people as, say, a "democrat" or even a "socialist" government.
"so, in any case - ion wind or not, this technology is still not quite suitable for space just yet."
It is already in use in satalites (with some success and some problems). Nasa is using it to make cheap satallites. How do they do it? They carry some gas (Xenon) with them to use to make the ion wind. No it isn't the same design, but it is the same concept (ionized propellant).
...eh...so now they really WILL know what toilet paper I wipe my ass with. And to think, just 3 years ago, using that was a popular exageration. Now it isn't the tinfoilhat privacy invasion extreme conspiracy theory. It's reality.
Lets just say, I saw this one from a mile away. That is why I did not sign up for the list despite not wanting the telespam calls.
You critisize someone for generalizing a situation, and then go and generalize one yourself. Pot, meet kettle.
"Why does this keep happening again and again?"
I'll give you a hint:
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Hell, I've been waiting for over a year. Lets pool some resources and ditch these bitches and leave them to their own hell.

I am 22 years old. The first programming language I learned was BASIC on the C64 somewhere around 10-12 years ago.

Unfortunatly, most of the country believes that what the government says is good for them, is good for them, regardless of the actual results.
Yeah, they've got their act together. A 2 million Aussie buck fine against the RIAA is like giving a guy that explodes a car bomb a parking ticket and a stern warning.
Naw, the US will just keep you guys as a colony for its corporations to milk money out of like England did to it's colonies back in the day.

OMG...someone actually still reads and understands the US Constitution? There may be hope for us yet!
For someone that seems to hold to simplistic moral and ethical values, you seem to be convienently forgetting one. (...or more.)
1. Do onto others as you would have them do onto you.
2. Two wrongs do not make a right.
3. Just because everyone else does it does not make it right.
4. Play nice.

A little more sarcasm...

It's thier version of the "think of the children!" red herring argument.
