After witnessing the tactics MS uses to dominate its industries, I'd just as soon prefer that they continue trying to fight it (and losing) instead of figuring out how to utilize OSS. I can't imagine anything good that could come of MS jumping on the OSS bandwagon. They're completely unnecessary to the advancement of OSS, and given that the strategy of embrace and extend is so ingrained in their culture, I question whether they could ever sincerely "play nice" with OSS.

Frankly, I wonder if MS will be reduced to bribes/unrefuseable deals of the sort they used to lure Gross and Hejlsberg in order to prevent foreign governments from defecting to Linux. They already offer major sweetheart pricing/licensing terms to such governments; how long will it be before various governments (and corporations) refuse even that, forcing MS to take whatever next step they deem appropriate?

How the American public responds is predetermined based on political affiliation. There are I suppose a small number of independents and "swing voters" that doesn't apply to, so I expect they will respond depending on how easily led by one-sided arguments they are. Michael Moore is inflamatory, but not very sophisticated.

Never fear, Microsoft will soon update Frontpage to generate code in the new semantic language, making it so no one has to think about the actual code they're writing, and bringing web development back to the masses once again. Where you put them probably depends on where you expect the missiles to come from, and how high their ballistic arc is, if they even have an arc at all (cruise missiles usually don't). Since it's the MTHEL (*Mobile* Tactical High Energy Laser), I imagine you could deploy them anywhere you want - in a screen on the ground near your borders where it can shoot down low-flying cruise-missiles into a deserted desert/field/forest many miles from its urban target, on ships in a body of water between your country and the aggressor country (Persian Gulf), or in airplanes flying a course that allows them to take out missiles at the top of their arc, or even while still ascending off the launch platform. I don't think deployment will be the primary problem faced by this device.
