The problem is, America's IP laws are (were?) one of the keys to our industrial dominance. They provided the guarantee to entrepeneurs that if they came up with a new product and took the time and effort to develop and market it, then they wouldn't have to share the financial reward with parasites who simply copied their idea. Entrepreneurialism is the key to America's dominance, and patent laws are what ensure that potential reward is worth the initial risk. Other coutries, notably Japan during their westernization in the mid/late 1800s, even copied our IP laws, to great success. The problem is that in the software industry, it seems that disparate researchers tend to come up with the same solutions/ideas without copying each other. Yet patent and copyright laws protect whoever patents or copyrights the IP first, even if they weren't the first to derive that particular IP. This drives corporations to patent every patentable idea, even if they don't yet know how to incorporate it into a product. Then, another researcher at another company independently contrives the same idea or solution, but b/c it's already been patented by someone else, he can't use it. How you solve this problem without slaying the goose that lays the golden egg, I'm not too sure, but that's one of the main problems as I see it.

The rise of Fox News and talk radio shows that there is another group that is just looking for a filter that reinforces their viewpoint without any disturbing debate entering without being spun.

Liberals love to console themselves by dissing Fox News & Rush as organizations that only "filter" and "reinforce" their own viewpoints, but that's not necessarily the case. Any Conservative or Libertarian will tell you that liberals have owned the American media since the sixties. Liberals attempt to rebut that by saying that mainstream media is not liberal at all, rather it's moderate.

In actuality, mainstream media may not be as liberal as Liberals think it should be to qualify as liberal, but it's quite obvious to Conservatives and Libertarians that all mainstream news is reported from a liberal perspective, not a conservative or libertarian one. Because of that, there has been a pent-up demand among Conservatives and Libertarians for news that is reported more from their point of view.

Liberals don't understand that, hence they also don't understand that that pent-up demand is the exact cause of Fox and Rush's success. There's no conspiracy, no right-wing brainwashing, it's just the capitalistic forces of supply and demand. The demand was there first, and Fox and Rush supplied the products.

Fox, Rush, & co. are reporting and discussing news from the right perspective, the only difference is that they don't attempt to disguise their views or slant their news as liberal mainstream media has done for thirty years. If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to listen or to watch. People watch and listen because they already agree with what is being said, and simply like having someone say it publicly and unapologetically for a change. There's no deception going on.

What Liberals can't seem to accept is that their strategy of controlling the zeitgist of America by owning mainstream media has been outed and countered. Now all you can do is whine about how unfair it all is, but the fact is, Liberals are reaping what they've sown.

I can't say much about Rush since I don't listen to him, but isn't it interesting how often Bill O'Reilly invites Liberals onto his show and then argues with them? I can't remember ever seeing a liberal talk-show/news host invite Conservatives or Libertarians onto his show and argue with them. Fair and balanced indeed...

I think you underestimate the intelligence of the elite rulers of Germany and France. Look at the results of the Iraq mess - US in serious debt, distrust of our unchecked power giving rise to anti-Americanism around the world, previously disparate forces uniting against us because of that. The French have been saying for years that America is a "hyperpower" that needs balancing. Uniting the world against us is certainly one way of doing that, and I think de Villepin, Chiraq, Shroeder & co. were quite aware of this being a potential result of an unsupported Iraqi invasion. Windows Operating System

Windows Media Player version 7.1 or higher
    Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM)

If you believe that your system meets these requirements, yet are unsure whether you have a Microsoft JVM, you can determine your configuration and enable the Microsoft JVM with these steps:

Go to the ?Tools? menu of your I.E. browser
    Click on ?Internet Options?
Click on the ?Advanced? tab (top, far right tab) within the ?Internet Options? window
Scroll down about half-way and look for ?Microsoft VM?.
Be sure that ?JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled? is checked (note that if all Microsoft VM boxes are checked, that is fine)
Once checked, scroll down and see if there is a ?Sun JVM? in the ?Advanced? listings. If you find this and it is checked, uncheck these.
Once complete it may be necessary to restart your computer

By altering these settings, you will not be limiting your access to any online content or opening your system up to any additional security risks.

If during the steps above, you found the Sun JVM, but did not see the Microsoft JVM and would like more information, click here.

Once the Postgres native Win32 port is done, then you'll probably see increased uptake. As it is, anyone who develops on Windows boxes (yes there are such people) is excluded from using Postgresql.

For example, I run a one-man non-profit during my spare time in grad school, where I develop and maintain websites for other non-profits. It lets me write off most of my computer kit purchases, and put some very interesting philanthropy work on my resume. But I'm studying Asian languages and use WinXP for its excellent language support via MS's IME. So I'm among those for whom it's just easier to use MySQL, especially since the sites I develop aren't that large or complicated.

There are also a decent lot of bloggers out there running blogs on Windows servers for whom a MySQL-based blog makes a lot of sense.

Not mentally ill, just indoctrinated. Religion is a process of psychological training that exploits various human needs, from hope for an afterlife to emotional fulfillment. It satisfies these needs in return for idealogical fealty, which religous leaders can use to exercise power over a populace in various ways. In my observation, most people get religion b/c they are either afraid of ceasing to exist when they die or because certain aspects of religion stimulate them emotionally (revivals especially), but usually not because they rationally believe everything in the Bible is true. That acceptance of the verity of religious doctrine tends to come after or in return for the emotional benefits provided by religion.

Some people have the innate intelligence/skepticism/whatever to see through it immediately, while others (like myself, born raised and indoctrinated in the Bible Belt) eventually come to understand this through experience and continual, open-minded re-evaluation of their beliefs. Many others never do.

In the back corner, there is a gap in the wall of junk and the junkyard wall, you can walk in through there. Go in, kill all the guys, rescue Lance, then exit through the same secret entrance. Get back on the PCJ, and escape via the bridge over the harbor. You'll completely bypass all the Comets that way, and the PCJ can get Lance to the hospital quickly before he runs out of health.

Get in the left lane, just behind Hillary's left rear bumper. When he starts turning left, he'll have to cross in front of you, at which point you ram him. You should be going fast enough to cause him to go careening down the sidewalk and miss the turn. Try to aim the collision so you ricochet off him to the left - he goes to the right of the corner building, you ricochet left and keep racing to the next marker while Hillary has to turn around and get back on course. In my experience, in most cases he'll get all screwed up and freaked out and can't figure out right away how to get back on the race track, giving you a few seconds to put some distance on him. From then, just drive fast and clean with no more than one mistake, and you should win.

Also, has anyone tried starting the race, then getting out of your car and blowing up Hillary with the rocket launcher, then finishing the race? Not sure if the game would let you do that or not.
