    You say something about a communist leasder...

    and make it like he is at fault... maybe it is, but I heard that there were international banks that are screwing the place over.

    I remember hearing about people not being able to withdraw their savings.

    Maybe it is the leader's fault, maybe it's the banks that tricked the leader, maybe the leader resisted but was beaten down by americans.

    Or I could be thinking about the wrong conflict...
    I was thinking of one in South America though...

    If you watch JAG or other TV shows... whenever text gets drawn, there is that sound.

    So the computer people made it do that because Holywood did it, and established expected behavior.

    Actually, somebody already pointed out electromagnetic stuff...

    whenever there is a current of electricity, a magnetic field is generated.

    A constant magnetic field provides a constant force, and then everything is in equilibrium.

    Then when you move a bright window, the electromagnetic field moves. (the noise is comming from the monitor most likely)

    and then that mask that seporates the pixles probably vibrates... making a sound.
    (there are other things that can move too)

    When I copy two things at once, that is because I don't want to be arround the computer to select the next file.

    I rarely care when it does it, I just don't want to be there.

    Some times I want to move a file to make room for another file that I have to get.

    If I could tell the computer to start downloading as soon as the move is done, I'd walk away from the computer and go exercise or something. (I'm thinking p2p, full HD, I could probably already do this with shell scripting)

    I spend WAY too much time sitting in front of the computer watching status bars slowly lengthen, then shorten...

    The article mentions multiple simultaneous writes and reads... Doing two tasks at once in much more expensive than doing them sequentially.

    Why not use the download manager programs... for all file transfering?

    My priorities:
    1. user interface responds effectively in realtime.
    2. CD writes don't fail
    3. Video doesn't skip
    4. files transfer quickly.

    I would actually like the ability to switch the mode of the file schedualer.

    If I am not doing 2. or 3. then why not switch to something that makes 4 happen?

    I saw something rediculous, like a 10 second wait for a login prompt??!?!

    The system should have that all ready ahead of time, and it should take no more than .5 second to get a login screen.

    --I don't care about spelling enough to spend the vast quantity of time to get this to the spell checker.

    the "billion" dollars didn't actually burn up in re-entry ... it was a lot of money though... and a lot of people will be loosing their jobs... and will have effectivly wasted a huge portion of thier time.

    I measure the cost of the vehicle in terms of human life.

    Imagine how many people in third world countries sewed something for the person who made system X for the shuttle... Stuff wears out, and it is possible to waste all existance just trying to fix the stuff that wore out instead of growing as a human race.

    The space shuttle is a national investment.
    Loosing a $20,000 item is like loosing a man year... of life.

    Billion dollar items represent the culmination of many peoples lifes.

    1 billion dollars like like spending 50,000 people years. (if $20,000 is good estimate)

    or about 1,000 people (if a person has 50 years productivity)

    People can make people... but space shuttles help people make people better...

    and as for hero's, anybody trusted with that many resourses could be called a hero on some level.

    The bigger picture is God... so it's moot, everything is always about God (according to my philosophy, if you want to flame go to my journal page)

    If everything were open source, these propriatary really cool games would still be out there,

    I think we are fed these violent games because they are new, and greate revenue for the gaming companies. They convienenty stop marketing the really cool games that won't sell... and start filling us with crap

    If we had better games we could avoid these violent games. But I think they shouldn't be illegal or restricted.

    the minute that I have to have an ID to buy anything... Is the minute that I start thinking about revolution.

    I'm more worried about this Police state stuff causing the pain (restriction of freedom) without the violence.

    Ok, the back button is SUPPOSED TO TAKE YOU to the last page you visited... and IT DOES! When you go back, you loose the branch that you were just on though.

    I get arround this by spawning a new window.
    The tree is copied to a new browser.

    If you don't want to do that, Whooptee doo. Just use the HISTORY instead, witch you are ofcourse just implementing in a slightly better way (arguably)

    The use of the word UP is innappropirate, becuase it is already used for going up directory levels.

    Up and down were arbitrarily chosen.

    Down makes more sence to me as going back in time on a tree...(towards the trunk) and up makes more sence to go forward in the time tree (go out to the branches) would be more appropriate a word, yet... I hate all of these stupid up, down, left for counter clockwize etc.

    So, if you want to choose the unchosen arrow direction for your little project, choose down. Do NOT choose up, our you could just use that sundial that IE uses.

    Isn't there something against corporations froming market cornering conclomerates and pricefixing etc?

    I'm not willing to pay an extra $5 a CD for a jewl case and box... So I don't buy it! but I'm just a drop that missed the bucket.

    I'd buy a few hours worth of music at $5 an hour though... unless the songs are immensly popular, inwitch case the amount that I'm willing to pay becomes less...

    Music is like water, Our friends talk about it and we must keep up. (well not so much now that I think about it a bit more... but... it is... grrr... I'm waffling on my own statement)

    Forward compatibility is a big deal, and can be planned. Y2K bug--lack of longer date format; HTML--ignore unrecognized tags BASIC--use line numbers in increments of 10 so adding new lines is easy.

    allow for new features... leave "space" in ruleset to allow for new rules in the future. Avoiding hacks and shortcuts, or accounting for being able to make it right later, are good ways to keep your software feature proof.

    I've been wanting to "balance"?? my DSL connection to the net... I want to give packets on certain ports higher priority... yet make sure that other trafic continues...

    I want to be able to tune my network connection to make low latancy medium bandwith applications work awesome, while making sure that webserfing happens reasonably fast, and streaming has its data put into order and maybe cached on the router...

    Basically, I want to prioritize between gaming, file sharing, streaming and downloading.. and browsing.

    Maybe having a few seporate network stacks?? (do I even know what I'm talking about?) and a process that can send a Woah, slow down buddy command to the servers?

    Good point. about the network trying to make money and all.

    This show has a message that is supposed to help make the world a better place.

    I have to say I really like this shows art, and female scenery, but what keeps me interested in the show is the message.

    and then I found that it was entertaining to boot.

    I think we need to redo the networks. Comoditize PVRs, give each person a little bit of brodcast bandwidth, and let people give their bandwidth to the shows that they want to save... and of course now how to pay for the show... Ransom method... or start doing the shows on a limited budget! Or by direct donation from the viewers.

    Why do we need so many layers of skimming and beurocrasy.

    Only a few of the people I hang arround with like the show. But the people who like it like it a lot. I get more laughs out of this show than I would on the simpsons.

    I forgot that slashdot is news for nerds... not neccisarilly good people.

    This show promotes values very similar to my own. It is dear to me. I wouldn't have a problem with killing some people if they are destroying the human race. I'm willing to fight for my freedom from a tryanical goverment. But I'd probably have to run away and try anew (If I survived).

    Just imagine the evil union (lead by the combined evilness of Bush, Gates, the RIAA, genetically modified Seed distributers, and other deciptfull manipulators) Trying to dominate your world. What if they had control over all of the food? and you had to be a criminal to eat?

    Food is the valuable commodity there... StarTrek went downhill with gold pressed latinum as a reward... Food and Water...

    The graphics are stunning, the camera angles are intriguing. The girls are cute. The jokes are funny. They bust into Chinese!!!! Shenme? What? Xiexie captain.

    The stories have plot twists!

    These got me to watch Buffy the Vampire slayer too... I heard that the movie sucked... but that's cause other people screwed it up... the TV shows are very interesting!

    Where else do you get a Musical episode?

    You really missed a lot from the 2 Hour show... Get it off of the internet... it is really neat, and it sets up the premis nicely.

    I'm sorry for all you who wern't forwarned about this great show.

    And I have to admit that this show needs the background information... and that the episodes are not entirely stand alone.

    The SCI Fi is just a vehical for the story.

    I bought DSL so I could watch it! (I don't have brodcast TV)

    phew... Bad writing... but it was passionate.

    The user interface and background tasks eat CPU.

    There is a symbol set for pronunciation... I don't need the stupid computer to figure out exactly what I'm saying.

    If it checked for aspiration, frikatives (don't yet know what this means), poping noises etc, and recorded the sounds and the rate at witch they occured... You might be able to highly highly highly compress spoken language...

    to maybe... 100words/min 300 sylables/min 900 phonyms/min 1800 Bytes/minutes The rate you speak would affect the bitrate...

    It could be like midi for speaking.
    you could record tonal stuff too...

    And if storage space is not really much of a problem you could record the sound at a low bitrate, have it along with the sound markup, and compare the two later for extra reliability.

    You could then have it process after the speaking is over, do some database searching, and CONTEXT remembering... and NO freaking MUDDLING of curse/taboo words... I'm sure that eats a lot of CPU time...

    These stupid programs try to record directly to english... I want to see the phonetics, and manipulate the phonetic database by hand. I don't want to train a stupid program that doesn't let me undo my reading of the wrong line...

    The training process could be made so much better by giving the user more control...

    We should start an open database of phonetics and meanings... along with context information for use in these...
    (It's in my plans)

    More ideas: I have a computer program that lets me sing into it, and it tells me what note I'm singing.

    Why can't we modify their software... and just jump over that bad code blocking? or update it with our own software...

    I guess that the usable code is encyrpted? and needs to be decompressed with that that key? or... is it just the normal function branch to that software?

    and btw, I feel realy stupid for saying why not just listen to it over the telephone line...

    i don't have a TiVo... nor... well yes I have a modem but it is currently being used as a paperweight...

    But couldn't we get one of these software modems to just listen in on the other trafic?

    I suspect that some Satelite TV companies do their stuff over the satelite... and some do it over the modem... either way, If I buy something... it's mine... No bugger is going to get away with deactivating it on me...

    I've heard that she made MS Bob... witch made that horrible resource hogg that, although is not on by default in Office Xp, shows up as a FREAKING DOG in my search window for WINDOWS.... heck, it was in the INSTALLER for windows XP. ... It's a cute idea yeah, but how much productivity have I lost because some stupid thing pops up and slows down my computer then takes 5 seconds to animate to disapear??!?!

    (BTW, I don't know if she really did make MS BOB or not)

    I actually like MS XP... after I turned off all the distracting glop...

    anyway, I thought MS had some contracts with Apple... and at one time made more money on Apples than Apple did... heck, they're using IE...

    I'm not sure I want Bill Gates being lord of the people because he is the best swindler.. (however... I would much rather smack the patent system etc...

    If he could keep a monopoly not protected by copyright and patents... I'd almost bow to the man... But Illgotten goods (stealing from people because of copyright and patents) shouldn't be spread in a way that benefites the man who stole them.

    Ok... 2.50 each for CD-RW...

    that burn at 8x (10 minutes)

    300 minuts of burn time... 2.50 cents spent

    lets pretend that 60 minutes was worth 5.00 of your time. that's 25 bucks. 27.50 for CD-RW

    oops.. how much time does it take to erase those RWs? maybe double you're time? .25 for a CD-R 1 burn at 40x.. (3 minutes)
    7.50 for 30 burns and 90 minutes of burn time...
    Thats 15.00 for CD-R... and oh wait.. you get to keep those!

    The only reason to use CD-RW is to replace floppy disks... burn a little now, burn a little then...

    and then you shouldn't delete stuff... just make a new copy of the file... (I guess CD-R's can be written to more than once.. so why use CD-RW at all?

    Rainer might make CD-RW's ok...

    I guess you'd use a CD-RW for stuff that you really do want to delete... but then why not just destroy the CD?

    G's are a unit of acceleration

    9.81 Meters per second per second. is one G

    If you hit a wall... your speed will change very quickly. (acceleration)

    It would take a lot of work (I think) to kill somebody with a 5 G coaster (I'm talking out my ass)... maybe something with knife blades as supports (I think that could even work with 1 G)

    Note: acceleration is not pressure, witch is in units of force per area. or acceleration times mass divided by area squared

    Acceleration is poition per time per time, or velocity per time.

    Jerk is acceleration per time.

    I think pressure would be an issue, along with jerk, and acceleration. Velocity can become an issue in an open cockpit... and position could become an issue... say if you got the coaster high enough to get to the stratosphere.

    I've heard of negative Gs... I would guess that is when you are accelerating downwards relative to your body, so the blood would flow to your head.

    It's called Jerk. The rate of accelleration with respect to time.

    I don't like the idea of Jerky roller coasters.
    They make me feel as if I am getting punched.

    I think I could stand higher Gs when the acceleration in longer.

    I think the point is: Consider more variables!
    I could probably find a way to kill somebody with a 5 G roller coaster, and have the same person live through a 10G roller coaster (though... I'd don't know for sure)

    If I were subject to uniformed acceleration, it would be as if I were heavier... (I was going to say had a heavy body suite... but I remembered that the blood has inertia, and would like to stay where it is more than my bones witch are rigid so the blood could FLOW to the head or feet...)

    I loved Battle Bots.

    I didn't like the fact that the arena was the same each year... I didn't like that the bots got points for nudging each other...

    I want to see bots that use the hammer to charge a weapon, I want to see other ways people can recharge their weapons.

    I want to see Thermite, I want to see EMP, I want to see electricution,

    (I don't want to see radio jamming... though... with artificial intelegence bots catagory, that would be fine!)

    I want to see spray paint that can cover up sensors, I want oil slicks,

    I want welding torches,

    another way of saving it would be to:

    Have a device that the bot must protect/keep from breaking while driving arround... and still perform other tasks.

    That way you could standardize the challenge somewhat, while still having unlimited combat.

    I like to see advertisements...

    Even the ones for maxi pads cause they got cute girls in them.

    I liked seeing the Dude Your getting a dell dude... for maybe the first 10 times... but then I started changing the channel when their adds came on.

    I think every citizen in the US should get a slice of the bandwitdh, and be able to put whatever they want on it (maybe 10 minutes every week or month... or an hour each year... or some combination... of time sharing and or very narrow slices of bandwitdh... (more ideas in my head)

    Anyway, then people will have to pay cost of their brodcast (witch should be rather low)... and may have to team up with other TV show fans to get thier show seen... maybe sign over their time to a network (they can revoke their time even durring brodcast in my model, however it comes back at the end of a combined period)...

    And then people would need PVR's to combine the 10 minute segments of time that people have donated...

    And then to pay the studio...

    (I might like a show enough to pay 100 bucks for it if nobody else wants to watch it, but then if evreybody wants to watch it... I don't think the producers should get more than 1000 dolars for it, so I'd pay 1 dollar... etc... To commision the NEXT epidode, for public domain release (GPL style).

    So it would be like an auction... with more complex rules.

    Producer asks for 100,000 dolars minimum for a show, 200,000 max usable (really up the quality with better special efects, live more luxuriously etc)...

    Joe bidder really loves the show, and would pay $50 to see the show if it was his own thing...
    he thinks that the show should get the full 200,000 bucks.

    his pledge would be for 50 bucks if less than
    100,000 dollars are raised, 30 bucks if less than 120,000, 20 bucks if less than 150000 10 bucks if less than 180000 1 dollar if less than 200000, 20 cents or something like that if greater than 200000 bucks are collected.

    I think this can work.
