"it was an interesting, well-written, provocative and intelligent show on Fox"
John Doe was MUCH more of this. Firefly was extremly disappointing and cliched.

Company Gift Time Again?

Yes, money. I am married with 2 children. I would rather my workplace give money than some newfangled toy that will collect dust and only be used as a novelty. Making my family happy makes me happy. Money, food, clothes, and toys from Santa makes my family happy. Don't think you are being uncaring or cheap by giving money, as it is probably the MOST welcome.
Will you please save Farscape?

Only you can appreciate the monetary possibilities of a great cult show, and only you have the means and the clout to not let such an awesome show like Farscape wither away and die.
I must humbly disagree. I bought a pair of the 340s and for the price the Altec Lansing comparable model sounds WAY better (I returned the Logitechs for them). The Logitech has variable bass, but its Midrange is WAY lacking. The Altec Lansing version sounds better, even if I can't adjust the sub-woofer.
It depends, if you have a large enough IT staff that can handle maintenance and support to build your own machines. If not, nearly every company I have worked for have used Dells and had great luck. I have hardly had one break, and if they do break and you have a decent support contract, they can usually have them fixed for the employees that day or the next.
You could ask for donations from Parents.. tax write-off for them
You could get the $200 PCs from Wal-Mart.com.. the school may be able to scrounge up monitors for you -- or the donation route or your local Goodwill or Salvation Army.
But why can't they simply use USB 2? It certaintly has the bandwidth, and the BIOS could allow USB NATIVE internal drives to be treaded like IDE. I simply do not understand the need for this new standard when FireWire or USB would suit perfectly, especially when the Avg xFer is around 10 MB/s and the USB Bus allows for up to 200 MB/s.
Just get a cheapO $200 PC and add TV Out for the out to the TV and the DVD player would be unnecessary, and you would get the added benefit of playing MANY more file types-- including DivX
Use the HD still.. or get another one.. and dedicate it to the Tivo like device on another channel in the Server....run cable or use a wi-fi card for the data transfer.
Well....he is actually 47 he retired 7 years ago;).. Just wasn't thinking. Time flies.
Matrox does NOT release their specs

"Other manufactures are quite happy to provide the specs for their devices, such as Intel and Matrox."
Many people (including myself) have consistantly tried to get Matrox to release the specifications for their now 5 year old video capture cards Rainbow Runners, that are now obsolete. Matrox has refused. Matrox does not provide support for these adequate cards for Linux or any version of Windows above Win98 or NT.

I would hope that any decent company in the future will be kind enough to provide hardware specs for things that are as obsolete as this, but Matrox has refused, I believe, because they want their users to upgrade, even though there isn't a physical reason to.

The REAL problem, and the one Geeks should be spearheading is intellectual property restrictions in the form od Patents and Copyright
I believe the 2 are necessary, just not as long as they think.

quite a big step in the right direction in my opinion.
It fits everyting you need to do. Multi threaded, stable, and most of your clients are on solaris anyway.
It is quite suprising that you even have to ask.. or you simply already know the answer and jsut don't want to.
OK so it is not a new idea.. but at least hire someone older than 13 to build your website before you go looking for investors!

Gravational forces and atmospheric braking could also serve to break.
