I haven't had any problems upgrading gnome versions with emerge. I went from 2.2 to 2.4 to 2.6 to 2.8 with various 2.x.y versions inbetween. I'll be installing 2.10 once it's unmasked. I always used emerge -u gnome or emerge -uD gnome, not just emerge gnome for the upgrades.
The graphics card is fine for pretty much everything.
A 32mb Radeon 9200 fine for everything? What world are you living on? It's not even a DX9 card (not that DX matters for opengl but the hardware features do). That card will barely run UT2004 at 640x480.
Ya gentoo definatly has the easiest mplayer install. I remember installing it when I was using mandrake and it was a bitch. Had to get like 20 libblabla-devel packages then go compile other things from source cuz the mandrake -devel pakcages didnt provide the full thing. Then run./configre multiple times to see what lib it still didn't detect. And with every new version of mandrake the package names that the libs mplayer needed changed and new things didnt work.
I'm using a P133 w/ 32MB ram running OpenBSD and it handles 5 PCs on a 100base network with a 10base external connection with no problem, even when there's over 2000 active connections.
Heh ebay...that's exactly what I did when MS came on my campus two years ago and gave away software. The senior running the program had no idea what anything was, ms probably gave him a job or something if he ran the program. I emailed him requesting a copy of Win2k Advanced Server, then got VS 6.0 pro, 2 copies of WinME, Office 2k Premium, and a couple of Whisler(XP) betas at the meeting. Sold everything on ebay and it paid for almost all of my laptop I bought over that summer that hapily runs Linux now.
I'm from "out past Springfield" and noone I know calls it pop. I've always thought of pop being more tword Boston, where they call water fountains "bublers"
There the same files, I checked the md5sums. Mandrake did that for the 9.0 release too, disto the images to the mirros as the next rc and then have them rename them when the release time comes. Probably so that someone doesnt accidently find the final isos before the release and post to./ or something.
Who defines what is accepted? I say that gtk is more acceped since the gimp, mozilla, gkrellm, xmms all use it. So mythtv should be ported to gtk since its the only qt program that I use, so gtk is more accepted. I could just as easily say:
- C for rapid development
- GTK/Gnome for a seriously cool plattform
- Better maintainance
- More acceptance due to GTK/Gnome

I still took one look at it and deleted it as crap.

GAH, way for copy/paste to not keep the line breaks

Same thing here. Have to reinstall the kernel and GLX packages to link against the new X librarys.
It is ported to windows. It compiles in cygwin just fine. Heres two pics.
