That's probably right.. I'm more into music, and Sony makes the "best" studio headphones available (MDR 7506), while they also make crappy $10 earphones.
"I think the US should put the top level domain servers under international control the day after all the Middle East countries put their oil under international control. It's the same sort of idea, since the whole world has a vested interest in oil just like it does the Internet. Why shouldn't EVERYONE have a say in how it's used?"
So Europe should declare war on the USA for the Internet control, just like the USA declared war on Iraq for the oil control ?
When you get 50 spam emails a day, and google only points to cyber-squatted domain, there IS a problem. Why do you think slashdot works ? Moderation. Is slashdot still free ? You tell me.
"it's not impossible that in the future they'll start to abuse their position and do things like.xxx. (Or something else that tries to inject one country's culture into DNS, which is absolutely unacceptabl"
How about.mil and.edu ? Aren't they USA-specific ? Why the hell isn't.us used ?
taxes on products, not services like an ISP. And even if we had taxes, ALL the prices we talk about have the taxes included, we're used to it, so we count them in the price.
Well, I'm probably too young to know about it, but a few years ago we had 56kbps dial-up connections that just worked, and I don't see how it could be any better.
"Last I heard, most of these countries have per minute phone service, and bandwidth usuage caps as low as 6G per month. Also, in the US, High speed internet is considered a luxury. Of course, I also know of people who spend $100(US)+ but the extra $25-30 for Internet is too much."
*Gasp*
Here in France, we have unlimited phone service, unlimited 20Mbits bandwidth usage, 100+ TV channels.. ALL for 30 Euros / Month. No extra charges. Oh, and the modem is given for free, and is a wifi access point.
That's probably right.. I'm more into music, and Sony makes the "best" studio headphones available (MDR 7506), while they also make crappy $10 earphones.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.
Please, don't let them buy all the good free stuff available.
Hey kid, did you just type "xxx" in google to find slashdot ?
Isn't it illegal ? At least in France I think it is, you can't sell a product with a lower price than it's production cost. Sort of anti trust law.
So why didn't they make a larger bus ?
Why are they moving away from motorola ?
The probleme IS the G4.
$500 Pentium M might be better than current G4, but you won't see them in a $900 laptop.

Like Apple is going to charge them $120 for the Leopard upgrade...
"ust because I bought a Mac does not make me a "convert"."
I believe Apple has sold more than 1 million Macs in 2005.
The article says 1 million PC/Windows users were converted to Mac/Mac OS, period.
You're not part of it, sorry.
Can Open Source Outdo the IPod?
(...checking open source user interfaces screenshots...)
No.
You are SO american...
Do they mean free international phone calls ?
I already can call by phone for free in my country.
"What actual governance failures urgently need rapair?"
Internet is not broke, it is garbage.
50 spam emails a
every day + half of the domain names being "for sale" domains and/or advert-only fake sites.
This is really anoying.
This is a failure.
This has to change.
When it's about software, everyone on Slashdot prefers it free (speech).
But when it's an American thing, you don't want to free it anymore.
Just Free It.
(or we'll make a faster, stronger, better one, that you will be welcome to join)
It was really hard for him to find a distributor in the USA, then he had to cut some scenes, and it was still rated R.
That is censorship.
How about Michael Moore's documentaries being censored in the United States ?
Funny thing is that Americans are probably the people on earth than know the least about America.
This is disgusting.

Actually, we have a few American channels on it, and we enjoy them.
You are right.. but :
- The company I'm talking about has nothing to do with the government.
- There is no minimum-time contract, you can sign out anytime.
Well, I'm probably too young to know about it, but a few years ago we had 56kbps dial-up connections that just worked, and I don't see how it could be any better.
That's why I talked about phone.
We HAVE copper phone wires.
We even had a data network, before America had Internet, we called it Minitel.
You are not the pioneers.

Internet access in China = Internet access in United States whereas house in China != house in United States
