that's a completely wild assed guess. Your 2 out of 3 statistic should mean that out of the 9 or so laptops that my immediate group of friends has owned, about 6 of them should have "failed miserably". Well out of those 9 laptops there has been one cd drive on an iBook that had a premature ejection problem, and one hard drive failure on a 12" PB. I'd call that pretty far from "failed miserably." Obviously this is anecdotal evidence, much like your own, so we'll never know what the real "failed miserably" rate is unless someone who's done an actual real study with real statistics cares to pipe up.
Bah, we control our own evolution now. Our technology has taken the place of biological evolution. At least that's what whacko transhumanists would say. Dunno how much of that I buy, but there's some interesting ideas out there.
That idea really doesn't work with Wikipedia since, as you say, the open nature of Wikipedia makes a direct comparison impossible. Anyone who was a tool of the company in question could just remove the offending material... and then someone else would just revert it back.
wow that article is really bad. it says a lot about what a Tier 1 carrier is not, but not a whole lot about what one is. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will re-write that.
Well right, and it's the production standards that I was referring to. If there's a flaw at some point in the process, and one of those chips is somehow damaged or maybe flawed coming from the chipmaker, then a Name Brand manufacturer is going to be more likely to catch that and throw it out. That was my whole point.
The PCB's (the green part) vary widely. If you want to save money on ram production this is the only place to do it...
Another place to save money would be to not have as strict QC standards so you could ship less well manufactured memory.
Oooooh right I forgot.. Living in Ann Arbor and essentially working in academia I forget about things outside my bubble. Ah well, I like it here. The beer isn't always free, but when it is it sure does taste better.
I would guess that all the parts being exactly the same or similar, that the main difference between Generic and Name Brand would probably be in quality control. So, Brand X might use a chip that didn't quite pass whatever test but still functions ok, whereas Crucial would probably be more discerning about that sort of thing, and would have a higher specification. But I don't know, IANA ram manufacturer.
I just picked up a v188. Seems like a pretty decent phone, had to do a little plist editing to get it to work with iSync, but since I did that it works great. Supposedly you can transfer ringtones and pictures with the USB cable also, but damned if I know what software I would need to do that. Any idea? Can't seem to find anything Mac or Windows that'll do it. But once I get that figured out, it'll be a great little phone.
Seriously. One of his ideas for what people could do in the "afterlife" is answer phones?
Instead of phoning up a call center and getting a machine that says, "Type 1 for this and 2 for that and 3 for the other," if you had machine personalities you could have any number of call staff, so you can be dealt with without ever waiting in a queue at a call center again.'
If that's the case, kill me now and burn the remains. I do that for a living now and it's driving me insane, if I was a disembodied mind trying to deal with disgruntled Comcast customers... I would go absolutely bug fuck. I would make Ghost in the Shell look like a day at the park.
you laugh, but I've seen people try and pull that off. It's really sad.
you know that's an excellent question that I haven't heard much talked about..

isn't your question answered on the top of the page? Nerds? Nerds!

So in that case, pick them both. Don't tell them about each other. Hope they never meet. Good luck.
hahaha
Your search - "Pay cut for personal growth" - did not match any documents.
Thanks for that. If I had mod points, I would have spent them here.

Beer is not free in the real world.
You clearly never went to a college party.

yeah I've done that. generally it's to covertly make fun of someone else in the room, or some such thing like that.
Living in a world where a faceless authority rides your ass all the time, silently recording and judging, just does NOT appeal to some people.
That's exactly why I quit working at Comcast and now work for a non-profit. Being tied to a phone was destroying my soul.
I should have known Spider Jerusalem would be on Slashdot. I'm right there with you, man.
SubEthaEdit is pretty sweet. Free for personal use, 35$ for commercial use isn't too bad...
Isn't that kind of how the Sims works? I never understood that game.
Hey! How about Grand Theft.. oh nevermind.
I just tried to load the www.go-opensource.org page three times in Safari (2.0, under OSX 10.4.1) and it crashed each time. Odd.
That's what I was wondering.. I mean, it's okay to love your Mac, just so long as you don't love your Mac.

yeah, I've even seen lightsaber sized glowsticks.. Don't even have to open the things!
