  14. Totally Unscientific Example on Hardware RAID 5 Performance Configurations? · · Score: 1

At work we are replacing a bunch of file servers, and I just had to chime in with my totally unscientific benchmarks
    All systems dell sc1600's 2 x 2.4 xeon's 1 gb ram, perc/3 dual channel raid card
for the highest usage server we did 5 x 36 raid 5 array 2 on one channel 3 on the other for ~ 100gig space + hot spare.
for the others we did 2 73's mirrored one on each channel.
All drives were same family from maxtor mark IV's i believe 10k's
In my rudimentary testing using hdparm -tT the mirrored drives performed at 75% of the level of the raid 5 for both read's and writes.
i'm not quite sure what to read into that, but i think given = # of disk drives the mirror would probably outperform the raid 5 but i could be way off base.
    YMMV

Halo 1 has a great "trainer" out there that lets you do some cool shiat, like shoot master chiefs out of the tank cannon, trade bodies with an enemy, super jump, never die, etc...
I own halo 1, so am I a pirate by having a mod chip and copying games to my hdd, so I don't have to change discs to change games? Plus the load times are much faster loading from hdd than any optical media. I have never downloaded a game or even copied a rented game.

I guess I am of the opinion that I own the hardware I should be able to modify it as I see fit.

Nothing irritates me more than having a webpage not display properly in opera when I have chosen to let opera identify itself as opera, but renders correctly when I tell opera to identify itself as IE6.

This Quote probably sums it up best

"Anyone who slaps a 'this page is best viewed with Browser X' label on a Web page appears to be yearning for the bad old days, before the Web, when you had very little chance of reading a document written on another computer, another word processor, or another network."
