We are using it because it is marginally better than a hole in the head.
I particularly dislike the fact that, not only have you left the roundabout, but have entered the next one, before it notices. It is positively dangerous when you have to go round a roundabout twice for it to catch up! (In a 40 ton rig).
And that on a Note 3, but it used to work well on an HTC Desire Bravo!
Come of Google - you need to test software before you release it - you are not Microsoft
Lack of exchangeable battery and SD card mean the whole discussion is pointless. I mean, who the hell would leave the house without a spare battery? - or a means to change data between home and work or different clients?
I believe that here in the UK, the official procedure is to put a brown paper bag over your head, as it makes it so much easier to clean up the mess afterwards.
Its several years ago, I am sure, that we heard of touch screens with "pixels" that vibrated to give a touchable image. I believe one used piezo pixels, and the other had pulsating voltages, but I am not certain of either.
I believe Microsoft bought one of the (at least two) competing technologies. Given the potential for keyboards you can actually feel, and porn apps, I am surprised the technology is not already in high end phones.
More use in a touch screen than a lot of other junk we have - like "3D" you can't feel, that requires your eyes to be focussed at a different distance from your attention!
My mum used to use an IBM709, which used valves, and ran Ibjob/Fortran2, but was later upgraded to a 7090 (transistors, but same instruction set) and Fortran4. It had 12 tape drives. AFAICR, no GPS and no 3G (not even 2G - in fact, no G's at all).
I used to support 12 users on a PDP11 wit 1MB of RAM (4 disk drives and two tape drives). Also no G's, nor GPS but not much chance of it moving anywhere - it filled an 18 ton truck, and used 415V at 20A, (provided you spun up the disks one at a time).
The spec of this phone is way better than the original IBM PC, and the build quality is probably better than a lot of the original clones. But it would be better to buy a second hand phone if you are spending under $100. You can by a Samsung Galaxy S2 for that. (A PDP11 would probably cost more, but it might also be more fun).
Meanwhile, my Samsung Note 3 does not even support tape drives! No scsi port, and no drivers for my USB DAT drives. I am still waiting for MT-ST to be ported to Android. Shame.
As long as a capitalist* exists, most of the world's population has a chance to eat. However, society needs to restrain capitalists in return for permitting them to continue.
Out of interest, how would you stop a man who invests his time in making and using tools from being more productive than one who sits on his ass all day drinking beer/vodka?
* Actually, it is monetary exchange that sustains the world's population at its present level. It is not the same as capitalisim, but nor is the American system of selling government to the highest bidder the same thing as capitalism - even if a lot of people think it is.
I wanted to pay y standing order. The website said go to the post office. I did. There was an hour long queue because of people trying to pay roadtax. I could not do standing order - the staff said "we have the forms but dont know how to fill them in. Use the web site." I paid 6 months. However the new system is designed to "help the public" by making it hard to buy second hand cars legally and stealing their money when they do.
The EU is hated because of propaganda funded by the banks. The UK imports 3/4 of its food - mostly from the EU. We pay for it in pounds, but the supply chain buys it in Euros. The banks charge 4% for converting the money. Then we have to export to pay for said food. The banks charge 4% for converting the money back again. Thus the banks take 6% (3/4 * 4 * 2) of our food budget (plus 6% of a lot of other imports/exports).
If we joined the Euro, the banks would be deprived of a collossal amount of easy income. On top of that, if you are a European fund manager, you need to invest a ortion of the fund outside the Eurozone. Would you put that money in Roubles? Dollars? Turkish Lira? Obviously not. The pound gets the vote.
Massive amounts of propaganda are needed to justify the additions to the household budget that not being in the Euro creates. Blaming the French and Germans is low hanging fruit.
However, I can normally guess the temperature to the nearest degree centigrade. Two degrees if tired, hungry, confused or drunk. No hope of guessing the nearest Farenheit degree, Nearest 5 degrees appears to be common for those used to Farenheit. (I have lived in the UK for over 65 years).
I have no problem measuring things in inches or metres, centimetres or millimetres - my measuring tapes are marked with all of them. I learned pattern cutting (for clothes) in metric. Imperial machine tools are superior because of the way the lead screw is made (it has a completely different thread to metric ones. You can cut metric parts on an imperial mill/lathe - just put the correct gears on it).
I have a serious problem with US gallons being short measure.
Cameron is seeking re-election. Move along now folks - nothing to see here.
AFAIAC Hangouts, Playbooks and the music thingy are defintiely bloatware. Dont know about Nexus5, but my Nexux7 went to CM solely because the bloatware was over the top. SGS3 same way. Yes I have donated to CM, and hate Google+ as much as anyone else.
You must be new here!

I think the device you are referring to is known as a band printer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_printer/
Oh, they don't leave the house! That explains it!
Most people who leave their mother's basement for more than the above-mentioned few hours!
Assuming I could pronounce it.
It used to work quite well for me, till I discovered where to buy a *BSD CD.
Unity killed Ubuntu. I am busy Migrating the family from Ubuntu to Mint.
If you are hiding a needle in a haystack, you might want to make sure the hay is magnetic first.
Oh, wait ...
Are you suggesting that sharks in tornados are not a serious threat?
Even in Texas?

It might. OTOH, it might just mean it takes longer for us all to die.
Panic now, while there is still time...
Where are the other Norsemen with paperclips?

But I didnt buy any media from the play store, and I am not likely to ... particularly if I cant play it with the media player of my choice.

Sounds to me like the restrictions come from living in "the land of the free". Woody Guthrie would be strumming in his grave!
And how many people from Guinea have you spoken too in the last 5 years? Ive met several, but not met one with a good word for their government.
