... movies that say something about the human condition have to have the message neatly and quietly tucked away into the background of space shoot-em-ups. In real sci-fi, the sci-fi is the SETTING, not the PLOT. Period pieces set in the PAST are treated with high regard by virtually anyone, whereas period pieces set in the future are regarded mostly with "why isn't there more shooting?"
Also, I can't wait for Next... it actually looks like someone took a sci-fi idea, and made a good movie out of it.
For far too long, the oceans crustaceans have been forced to live in servitude, with the knowledge of impending death looming over their tiny spineless brains. Aquatic mollusks existing purely to create better speakers, gas sensors, and the mighty Kraken slain and now used to broadcast XM Radio to Illinois. You've gone too far!
Seriously, though, this is sort of cool. When can we see shell bikinis with embedded iPods?
Attributing human characteristics to posters like you is also a little bit of free license. Yes, the individual virii are able to change and adapt, because that is quite clearly what the article says. The composition of the 'shell' of the virus is sugar-based, with the compositional molecules constantly changing to prevent any specific, mass-produced biological defense from penetrating the shell. The one region in question, though, has the same composition regardless of the changing morphology around it, making it an excellent target for specific binding agents.
See, this is why wind power can't power all of humanity's needs.
Firstly, to get that much power would, quite literally, suck the energy from the atmosphere, and would really start to mess with global weather, changing jet streams and such. Secondly, this method sucks water from the air, which would no doubt have a much faster, and more drastic, effect on the weather. There has not been any large-scale long-term testing of this, which I would recommend before we start putting them up everywhere, and changing where the winds blow when the seasons change.
I know about it, it just amuses me a little bit.:) If I put up a big WiFi setup in PErcival, Manitoba, I could give EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the town high-speed connections to eachother. All 8 of them. 4 of them directly related to me.
That's architecture... the blending of form and spirit, with the cold hard numbers that make it possible. A painting can be done with ANYTHING, and still fulfill it's role. If a building looks the way you want, but you forgot to carry some threes, you're probably going to kill some people, and go to jail for neglicence.
The goal here is not to produce another Tocatta, or Freebird, or Cowboys From Hell, but to get people who ordinarily woul not be producing an album to produce an album. It's motivational, it's inspirational, and it helps to get the creative juices flowing.
Plus, it's fun. If you don't wanna do it, then by all means, go back to whatever it is you do when you're sarcastically commenting on things you don't understand.
"At that point, the Constitution may fail us, and we will have to turn to Congress to create rules that are better adapted for the information age.'"
Hands up, everyone, if you think that you trust COngress to create rules that are BETTER adapted for the information age, given that we're twenty years in, and they'be done jack so far...
Conversational English (read: Slashdot) does not require me to proof-read everything I write, especially while suffering from the flu. While it's true that most engineers, and indeed people, cannot put together a sentence with proper grammar, spelling, and so forth... do you really think that mine was so bad as to warrant singling me out, and making fun of me?
My goodness, your ability to grasp sarcasm is only equalled by your bravery to not post anonymously.
Seriously, grow up. Judges have better things to do than uphold laws they don't understand.
Mod up?
I did a college engineering report on this... in 2004.
It's very, very easy to get pr0n, and LOTS OF IT, on those websites. Will they have to move to .xxx?

musta: not a word. Thank you, Princeton.
But what do I know, I just read the article...
You're right. Nukes worked so well the first time around, we didn't NEED to go back and improve them.

They have much to teach us...
The criteria are odd, though... Canada, Canada, UK... Estonia?
I don't really have the free time to learn how to use any of them.
That's a sizeable roadblock...
More games need that kind of accountability.
That would be awesome, if I had even one of the many programs needed to compile and run it...
... but I have to go have sex with my wife.

Where's my copy of Audition.... Even if it sucks, it's incentive for me to produce the songs I've written, and have never, ever recorded....
I'll never understand that. Its called BREAD, and FILLING, people... bring a freakin' sandwich.
Hands up, everyone, if you think that you trust COngress to create rules that are BETTER adapted for the information age, given that we're twenty years in, and they'be done jack so far...
I think I love you.
Sounds like some sort of Microsoft Condom...
