    I gotta concede that Professor Bjork's brain is much better than mine.

    Bjork also recommends taking notes just after class, rather than during â" forcing yourself to recall a lectureâ(TM)s information is more effective than simply copying it from a blackboard

    That might work for him because his brain has the capacity to recall all the stuffs _after_ the class is over. Not me.

    If I waited till the class is over and _then_ started to write down the notes based on what I recall, I probably can recall 15% to 20% of the total thing.

    Granted, not every single word from the lecturer mouth is useful, but still, about 30% of the stuffs an average lecturer taught in an average college level class is relevant in _someway_ to the subject in hand.

    My own ability to recall only 15% to 20% means that there will be essential stuffs that I would have missed.

    Back in the 1980's when Al Gore proclaimed the "Information Super Highway" there had been more hype than everything else combined

    There were so many example of Net venture wasted all the money being pumped into them, and yet, the financial world never learn

    Take search engines for example

    The was Altavista, and people was like goo-goo and gaa-gaa all over it

    Then Yahoo came along, and the goo-goo gaa-gaa people flocked to it

    When Google arrived, Yahoo withered

    Take "community", for example

    There was "The-Well", AOL, tripod, whathaveyous

    How many of them are still left, today?

    How many BILLIONS have they wasted?

    I do not have a crystal ball, but I can tell you that FB will be just like any of the above-mentioned, and the billions pumped into it would be wasted

    I can't remember how much $$$

    I am afraid you've failed in your Logic 101 class.

    In an all-star game, the athletes COMPETES against one another

    In becoming a referee for leechy organizations such as Elsevier there is definitely no competition, neither mentally nor physically --- It's a task, a venue, a way, to garner "respect" from their peers

    Being invited to be a referee of one of those journals is seen as a sign of respect by the scientific community

    In other words, you are saying that scientists in general have such low esteem of themselves that they crave for the respect of their own peers in order to survive

    And in order to gain the respect of their peers, they would do anything - including participating in activities that do more harm than good to the scientific community as a whole - like keep on supporting leeches such as Elsevier

    Being a referee is part of being a scientist.

    Being a human being with integrity is ALSO part of being a scientist.

    If one wants to think one being worthy to be known as a SCIENTIST one must at least have the integrity to know that keep on feeding leeches such as Elsevier does the scientific community a dis-service

    Restricting the access to information is an antithesis to scientific principle.

    I'm really sick and tired of this "blame the victim" mentality.

    I ain't blaming the "victim" per se.

    The case I am trying to make is this --- Ultimately this mess will come to haunt us and our children, and their children's children in the future --- and what are we doing now?

    Blaming the politicians, blaming the system, blaming every-single-thing but ourselves for giving the system/politician/whatever the blank check to do whatever pleases them !!

    The voting public has been under-educated, manipulated, and deceived by those who are either in or wanting power

    If the voting public been under-educated, who is to blame but those dumb-fucked and under-educated voters?

    It does sound like I am playing the same-old fiddle, but it's the fact ---- It all comes back to us.

    What are WE going do about this?

    Or are we going to depend on/blaming others?

    Take responsibility, people !!!

    Another use that I can see for this technology is to use it for emergency and impromptu news broadcasting, especially when faced with dictatorial authorities (like Iran/China/Syria) which will do anything to stop unfavorable news from getting out to the world

    Who elected the politicians who made up those "home governments" ?

    As I said, ultimately the responsibility rest on *US* ----> You, and Me ----

    We are the ones who have elected those politicians who supposed to represent us in the government.

    We are the ones who are responsible for the mess.

    It might not be *US* who put them there directly but ultimately it's *US* who allow THE SYSTEM to put them there !!

    In a democratic system - and I am talking about the *US* in democratic system - the SYSTEM ultimately falls under the control of the society - which is, the voters, like You, and Me, *US* !!

    It's *US*, yes, You and Me, who is responsible for this mess.

    You see, it's *US* who have allowed the politicians we have elected to carry out all these bullshits.

    The article talked about "all is not loss", WTF ??

    What does it mean by "all is not loss" ??

    We've given our politicians the blank check to pass all these bullshit bills, and still, we're saying "all is not loss" ??
