Oh, Portal was absolutely incredible. One of the best games I've played in a long time.

  2. Re:HAHAHA yeah right on Review: Halo Wars · · Score: 5, Interesting

Having played both... Halo is the superior game. Yes, blasphemy, I know, but really, is there a story to Half-Life? No. I was amazed when playing HL2 that people make it out to be such a big deal. Most of it was listen to a couple minutes of conversation that suggests that there may be a story somewhere, OMG, something happened, you're separated from Alyx, now go through 2 hours of story-less FPS gaming to meet her somewhere else. Then it happens again. Oh, and occasionally there are massively long and boring vehicle sections.

About 25% of HL2 was actually interesting and fun.

Halo, on the other hand, has solid story throughout. Sure, there's nothing as cool as the gravity gun in the play, but the tank-driving sections are far more fun than anything in HL2.

In fact, the section of Halo 3 where you destroy the scarab with the tank was more fun than the entirety of HL2.

    Let me get this straight.

Because one title with proper ratings has a small portion of the game, something that's completely optional for end users to participate in, that's related to sexuality, then there can't be the policy decision to decide that topic's not allowable in a console feature that's in no way related to the game in question?

The fact that the majority of the use of terms related to sexual orientation of XBL are meant as pejoratives can't be allowed into policy decisions? So because Fable 2 has sexuality in it, XBL must allow sexual orientation and related terms in profiles, even if that means for every single GLBT person that puts it in their profile, 10-20 kids make gamertags like "FAGKILLER" and "STUPIDGAYS"?

Sure, you can just say that offensive ones are not allowed. But then what happens when someone's tag is "RichardIsGay" - is that offensive or not? Then the judgement calls get difficult, and eventually one is made incorrectly, then Consumerist gets more articles about how the people making the decisions at XBL aren't all perfect and therefore they're all a bunch of gay haters.

The game is ESRB rated, and a parent could choose to not buy it, and even set parental controls so a child couldn't play the game on the console even if they got a hold of it. (Assuming the parent actually PARENTS, instead of using the console as a babysitter.)

Actually, there is the possibility that methane being released underwater may end up with enough water mixed in with it that it may stay close to the surface. If this is true, we could end up in situations where large clouds of methane stay low and drift along with high enough concentrations that if it drifts over land, it could kill most of the life.

It could even reach concentrations where lightning could cause combustion, resulting in massive firestorms, stripping areas bare.

I'm not sure if it's in the "likely" column, but it's a scary, scary scenario.

All the rest, though, are wonderfully designed.

Considering that Aerosmith has that exclusivity contact with Activision now, I think Train Kept a Rollin' is highly likely to not be allowed to transfer. Harmonix had to renegotiate the rights, so I figure Aerosmith had to say no.

I know when I talk to someone and try and maintain eye contact, I find I have to blink much more frequently or my eyes start watering - perhaps it's over-compensation for not blinking enough otherwise, but I'd probably be called out as "blinking too often" were I filmed doing such.

Perhaps the person they filmed to be the basis for this video did the same thing.

Yep, which is why I corrected myself.

Doesn't change the fact that somehow, contrary to the claims being put forth by Daily Tech and similar blog entries, that 2007 was tied for the second warmest year on record. Some cooling, eh? One month's data is statistical noise at this scale.

Damnit, I was thinking that was the wrong chart - I'd seen a different one that was only Jan. temperatures. This one is NOT like that, so I was incorrect. My apologies.

However, 2007 is still tied for the 2nd warmest year on record, and Jan 2008 is overall cooler due to those reasons, but it's only one month of statistical noise until there's a substantial trend.

  13. Re:Erm on Alaskan Village Sues Over Global Warming · · Score: 1

Except that chart is only showing the yearly January temperatures. And Jan 2008 was cooler than usual due to both La Nina and lower levels of solar activity. So yes, Jan 2008 was significantly cooler than Jan 2007. But that doesn't say anything about Feb-Dec 2007, which were warm enough to make 2007 tie for the second warmest year on record.

Unfortunately, from what I've read the PS2 version is about 1/2 as good as the next-gen versions. No Band World Tour mode, which is the meat of the multiplayer experience, no additional songs to purchase online, and no character customization. It's still good, being Guitar Hero with more instruments, but it seems like it's just a poor echo of the 360/PS3 versions of the game.

And I agree that Rock Band is the game of the year... I've had the game going multiple times with a crowd of friends over, and there are constantly four people playing it. They've definitely taken the music game genre to a new level.
