thats a little nit-picky if you ask me. its never really mattered to me. Grammar is it's own worst enemy when it comes to language.
Oh wait, what was it we were talking about?
While I can't exactly endorse steps 1 and 2, I can comment on my Powerbook G3's battery. I've had it now for two years and I bought it used. It uses the same battery. It alternatives between heavy battery usage and AC time as I will occassionally do things like unplug and sit on the couch to program, and then there's the travelling thing.
It started out by providing me ~3 to ~3 1/2 hours battery time while running Linux, and currently will give me ~2 1/2 to ~2 if I'm being abusive (power wise) after two years of moderate use.
It definitely sounds like there is a problem with your battery (batteries?) if you are not using it on battery time heavily/exclusively. If you ARE pushing it pretty hard, you'll definitely need to do a charge/flush/charge cycle on it as that sounds like battery memory problem.
If a child is old enough to work, old enough to pay taxes and old enough to spend their own money, they are old enough to buy their own video games regardless of the content.
The double standards in this country regarding children are absolutely appalling. Somehow you aren't intelligent or experienced enough to make your own decisions until you have lived this many years. The ability to think reasonably and make rational decisions is one of experience and by removing our children's ability to have experience making these decisions we only increase the average age of people unable to make decisions for themselves.
...of course, I will be controlling my children's consumption of movies and games until I deem they are capable of handling that material on their own but if I have that trust in my 16, I see no reason why I should have to go to the store with them to buy Grand Theft Auto 7, just because our government doesn't think they should be able to buy them on their own.
Kevin, you've been seperated from computers by law, yet now you are running a consulting business. This would suggest that you have some level of expertise with computer technologies that did not exist or existed in fairly immature version of their current incarnations.
How did you/do you stay current on technologies without actual experience, and was it difficult without having an opportunity to put theory into practice?
guess I may just be underestimating the abilities of 4 year olds, but I tell you, when this generation leave school and get jobs tech support will be a thing of the past...
Really? You say that because a four year old is displaying pattern recognition and functionality association? That strikes me as being extemely similar to seeing a four year old accurately insert shaped blocks into appropriately shaped holes on the first try and saying, "Welp, aint gonna need any carpenters when this generation grows up."
Seriously, IT is about providing computer maintenance services for an enterpise that can't afford to have its staff sidetracked fixing their own computer problems. When you hire an individual to maintain your computer systems, what you are really buying is more productivity time for your employees.
This linux in schools idea has a definite chance and the doubters who suggest that linux is ready for 'the real world,' as neat as it is, forget that these kids when they're done with their computer classes will not fear a command line, and will indeed have abstract computer knowledge that passes between OSs.
Of course we'll see if Microsoft raises some sort of challenge to this as they hate losing school customers.
Japanese televisions use a higher color temperature (~9000) than American televisions (~5400). Theaters use a lower color temperature as well (~5000-5700), and so to keep colors looking the same when released domestically in Japan, Miyazaki has his animations color shifted to compensate.
When you take one of these DVDs and play it on an american TV, it looks pink. best to wait for our own domestic release.
is slightly flawed and misleading. It is more accurate to say that it is an emerging console economic model which, up until recently, would have cause laughing and contempt from their respective planning commitees.
The recent hardware used in the current generation of console is expensive and so the overall cost of these systems is significant in comparison to the (good?) old days of the original Nintendo.
Sony was making a profit from the PS2 (and still has a small profit margin in light of the new pricing) because they design and manufacture most / all of the components, AND assemble them. The XBox costs Microsoft a floating value between $270 to $360 depending on the current cost of components.
then download and install some new fonts. There are some fonts around made specifically for mozilla. Try doing a little web searching.
Personally, the defecto helvetica fonts work great for me. Just switch everything except monospace to helvetica, set the font size to 15, set monospace to fixed and font size to 12, set minimum font size to 11.
Surely I think lots of people don't play with settings enough for their own good.
In japan space is key and a laptop means A LOT of saved space. It tends to be THE computer, not an extra, tote-able edition. 16.1" display? yeah, that machine would rock.
I don't use ntpd because I have a security and resources conservation mindset.
I just see an incredibly huge risk in having a daemon sitting the in the background that 1) does very little but in a very routine way and 2) has the unadulterated authority to change my systems clock unheeded.
rdate in a cron script is nice because it uses few network resources, running only once an hour for me while george can run it how ever often he wants, the time server I connect to while retrieving the time is IP and Name coded in my hosts file itself to prevent DNS based time attacks... and as was mentioned earlier in this thread, you can set up samba to server up time, so windows machines aren't left out. As far as Classic MacOS's, I don't really know how you'd want to time sync those, but I'm sure that MacOSX can sync on the time retrieval machine with little to no trouble.
Just don't like waisting precious memory on something that sets the clock.
Ahh the meager beginnings. I wonder how many of us really got started programming because of that 800XL with BASIC.
"Dad, what's that?"
"Its a programming language. Its how people write the games that you play."
"How do I do it?"
Yes, I was very depressed when atari lost out. Was very tragic for a 12 year old. I still have a few pictures of me as a 8-11 yo with that beautiful logo plastered on my chest.
Exactly. Sony just decided it was time to mess with Microsoft.
Can't really blame them either as now Microsoft is losing something in the neighborhood of $300 on each Xbox sold, rather than $200, and with the flagging interest from developpers in making games for that console, the Xbox is starting to lose any hope it had of taking a major market share away from Sony.
Sony officially announced their price cut first. Both companies were waiting for E3 to officially announce the price cuts, but Sony couldn't help themselves.
Actually a large percentage of us actually run linux. Sure, 5% doesn't sound like a big number but when you apply that to the number of desktop systems in use out there today, there's definitely a PPC market.
Going with pure speculation, lets assume 50 million desktops in use out there today. 5% of 50 million being 2.5 million machintosh systems.
Now assume, just for fun, that only about.5% ( an underestimate just to be on the safe side) of us mac users are curious about linux enough to want to try installing, that leaves 125,000 people who want to or are running linux on their Macs.
And specifically, of those 125,000 people say about half of them are absolutely fanatical geeks who probably also have a PC, and other systems, and try out EVERYTHING, you're looking at 75,000 people who are going to want to download the latest ISOs AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Sounds like a bandwidth issue to me.
When Yellow Dog Linux released the ISO's for YDL 2.0 for public download, they ended up with a SEVERE network issue which lasted for the better part of a month, finally requiring them to upgrade their line.

Personally I see very few reasons why these should not be obtainable openly.
All that a Trusted CA issued certificate says to me is that the potential scammer had the money to buy an SSL certificate.

Important to note, the statement:
this is how almost every game console works

why don't you change your fonts in mozilla? geez.
We should create a measurement system based on newbies.
noob - the time it takes a newbie to read the manual after opening the box.
Man, that guy was outta there in a milli-noob.

I use cron scripts and rdate to distribute my time syncronization.
Now if there was just a way to get a cron script that could sync the time on my phone.

The only issue I see the with the varying qualities of the film.
I greatly disliked the OBVIOUSLY digitally added materials in the remasters of IV-VI and it would just be that much more annoying to more.
I think its a great idea if lucas can just match the video qualities up.
