The "Comair system crash" link was just a link to a previous slashdot story (no change for/.'ing that), and already contained a summary...it would have been (-1) redundant to provide a new summary for what originally happened, when you can just link to the original summary...
"The computer failure that grounded an airline's entire fleet over the Christmas weekend and stranded thousands of travelers was due to creaky software that couldn't count higher than 32,768."...
According to the Post, the software -- which tracks all details of crew scheduling, including how long they have flown (an FAA regulation restricts airtime), and logs every change -- has a 16-bit counter that limits the number of changes to 32,768 in any given month....
to be fair (although it's not an excuse), but 32K crew changes in a month? that's like 1,000 a day? that's crazy!...
they talk all the time about how melting polar ice caps are causing water levels to rise...so, you're telling me that dumping 500 billions tons of land mass into the ocean wouldn't cause water levels to rise???
that's a great thought...but, i have a question...even in a controlled manner, isn't dumping 500 billions tons worth of land mass gonna into the ocean gonna cause some water levels somewhere to rise? sure, it won't be all at once in a 300 ft wave (which would be pretty cool), but i'm guessing you'd still be flooding a lot of land...
i thought that was pretty clear...the earth's rotation would be 3 microseconds faster...so, whereas before the quake the rotation was 24 hours (that's probably not exact), now it's [24 hours - 3 microseconds] (atleast by this theory)...
i guess i can buy that...so, we're saying that the autonomous vehicle will be able to suck an ample supply of flies from the air, or it will go raid some farmer's apple orchard...got it...
no...because if your "fuel" is apples, then the you still need to sop occasionally an "re-feul" by loading up on some more apples...how is that autonomous?
i tried to RTFA, but between my e-mail, the internet radio i'm listening to, ESPN.com, and my actual work, I didn't have enough concentration...
actually, both Initrode and Penetrode were competitors to Initech...i believe Micahel & Samir went to work for Initrode at the end, right?

wouldn't "Initrode" handle that stuff now?
just RTFA linked in the summary ("conair system crash")...

1. Invest in land in Ohio

ah, crap...before someone corrects me, i realize i didn't do that math correct on that...too early for math yet...
yes, instead of being known as "24", it'll now be known as "23.999997"...
this article says "in recent history"...
too bad you said "mankind", otherwise it could've been the comet that wiped out the dinosaurs..

it's sad, but that's exactly what i thought of when i read the headline...
1. Alter asteroid orbit 2. Capture asteroid 3. Slice asteroid 4. Sell asteroid 5. Profit!
i only see one problem with your plan...
a screwdriver has vodka, not whiskey...everything else sounds great though...
What is this? Dawson's Creek? 10-13 year olds don't talk like this in real life...
i feel like this article should've featured Bill Cosbby asking the questions, while plying them with Jello Pudding pops...
take all the money that's going into those crappy blue man group commericals, and use it for some R&D...i hate those commercials...
ah, ok, i was a little confused...i was picturing humar interaction to "feed" the robot with the apples/flies...i get it (a little better) now...
did you come up with that on the fly?
