Highly underrated phone even at 3 years old.
I have six sister in laws in Colombia, and since I work for a telco I tend to give them phones every xmas, and six months later most are broken(I am looking at you iphones) and so I bought six Defys on ebay, put ICS on them, and I have heard nary a peep from them, the girls love them and they have been dropped in rivers, streets, babies have thrown them against the wall, and they keep on trucking.
They seized El Exito the biggest grocery store chain in the country, they also seized telcoms via Chavez back in the day, which all add up to more than five shops.
You have never been there have you.
Where in South America, I just spent five years living in Colombia, and I had a 10 meg down connection via fiber(which translated to about 4 meg in real world terms) and when I am traveling down there now for work I am either on wifi or tethering via 4g on my cell using Claro, and it worked even in the remotest locations in the andes.
DSL is pretty common even in small towns, but as long as the small town has TelMex cable you can get decent home and internet service. The only place I do not have it is on my tiny little coffee farm, but when I am there I am usually doing somehing other than sitting in front of the compyter.
I have two deaf cousins who would beg to differ, and all of us in the family who learned to sign can communicate much quicker by signing than grabbing a smart phone.
And my hands do not need electricity.
Fucking douchebag.
Sears starting dying in the 90s when they had the MBAs pension off their older employees early and lower wages and commissions. I know I worked their in college, and my commissions from selling electronics went from 10-15 percent to 1-3 percent, and if something was returned within six months, they would take your entire commission back.
Plus Sears had higher prices than many stores on many items but would give anyone credit, which of course the majority of people they gave it to never paid their bills.
Sears also had special skus on products because they orderd tvs, tools, etc with lower specs that were made so that only sears had access to parts to fix them.
Sears had many more problems before Amazon was even an idea.
I started shaving my head when I was 32. I met my wife when I was 39 and she was 24.
I never had a problem with women, but as soon as I shaved the dome, it fell out of the sky.
Job ops or women never became a problem.
I am a natural born US citizen, who is also a citizen of Colombia and Panama. Both decidedly third world countries. I also have taught classes in both places and worked for companies for pesos. In addition I have worked in Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, and Ecuador.
In those countries kids until there are about 15 are under their mothers skirts because they are helpless.
Your experience is not germane to the rest of the world.
Get off your high horse, and your mother needs to tell you that other people can be smart.
Sorry,
But I just brought six Motorola Defys running android to my six sister in laws in Colombia, all running Angry birds and Whats app. They have five megapixel cameras, military spec, and I paid sixty bucks for each one and I just got a call from one sister in law asking me if I could bring ten more down to sell because everyone loves them.
You can also get the Nokia Asha, which they love all over South America.
My next round of phones to bring down are Samsung Galaxy S2s which I can get for 150 nearly new, show me a Firefox devices that can perform as well as those 2 with an app store.
buy him a book, an erector set, lincoln logs. Do not get him hooked on the electronic teat at such a young age.
My father was an engineer and even though he worked late hours, he still would take me to the ice cream shop at night and help me with my homework and have dad and son time.
The time he spent was quality.
I would imagine that the government is handing over detailed maps to private, federal property of military bases.
Though what they have is satellite imagery, they have no actual mapping of the entire property.
Especially since in 2008 the DOD told google they could not map or have their vehicles on us military installations.
So your case was not Googles fault.
$35 bucks is what I unlocked mine for and I "gasp" us it in Colombia and all of latin america. And then I put my tmboile sim in and make wifi calls back to the states at no charge.
S2 replacement glass can be had for $4.00 USD whole screen with digitizer, $65 USD.
Iphones are not sane compared to other phones for repair costs, because other phones you can open the battery compartment.
The iphone repair industry is huge because of the insane cost apple charges to fix them.
Little revisionist history? Which is not unexpected from an Iphone fan.
Siri was an app that originally worked on all iphones, then Apple bought them, integrated it into the phone, and then killed the original app and its back end so it would stop functioning, so you had to get a 4s for it.
Funny, how their were no mic issues before, when it was a third party app.
Actually,
As a tech manager at one of the largest Telcos in the US, and someone who travels frequently around the world, an "unlocked phone" has traditionally been not for geeks but for traveling businessmen and tourists.
I would say I get at least 3-4 escalations a desk a day for non techies wanting their iphones unlocked ASAP, thinking they do not have to go through the heinous Apple process.
And yes you can get good android phones "for cheap" I have a Motorola Defy that I use for South America. Paid 75 bucks for it. 5 megapixel camera, android military spec that is virtually bullet proof. It has been in the Amazon and slid down a glacier, still looks new.
Unlocking phones was around before all these self-professed "geeks" had iphones or androids.
I guess with globalization and the economy the general public does not travel anymore, only Slashdotters get on planes.
Actually, when I am Bogota I generally have a coat/ and or long sleeves because it is generally chilly, and I know when and and when not to make it know I have anything of value on me.
But since I am Colombian I do not generally get taken as being an "easy touch".
Smart phones spend the majority of the time in peoples hands, even when they are not talking on them.
Hell yeah, Escape from New York all the way!
While a bit pricey I would not mind 1.
Where I work we have to keep our phones in our desk or in our pockets, and it would be a great boon to me to see messages and who had called with a look at my wrist.
Plus, I dont have to fish my phone out my pocket to see who calls. Or leave it on the bar in front of me.
But the best use for me is that when I am in South America and my cell rings, I can see who it is, without alerting local crooks I have a smartphone.
I did not take it as Mexico either, and I am a card carrying latino. Colombian not Mexican, but even in latin american countries they talk about the border, la frontera, even when it is an imaginary line when you are on a plane, train, flying, or driving, from a latin american country. The "border" can be customs at Miami International.
And oddly enough as someone who has worked in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Ecuador, and Chile I have caught dengue, chicken pox, and a host of other unamed maladies.
And honestly I do do not get upset when someone makes a joke about cocaine, Pablo Escobar, or kidnapping in Colombia. Because while it does not happen to me it does happen.

And they also robbed Exito, the Colombian grocery store chain, and 65 percent of the food imported comes from Colombia. Thank god I do not live there.

Yes you could, I got a lion dvr burner for 20 bucks in 2002.

I use google Cloud print with a Motorla Defy, Galaxy S2, and my HP Touchpad. Plus I can also HP Eprint with them as well

the voodoo graphics 3d card hit in 1996, and was a pass through gpu. I had one. I had the voodoo 2 in 98, the Rush was a failure.
Cause Apple engineers did not design the scanner.
Actually, the Alpha brought it to the desktop.

I think the word you are looking for is renowned. And Americans are not the only ones who lack an understanding of geography.
