The American Express charge card does the same thing, and yet it is not called a credit card for a reason. You are expected to pay the monthly bill off in full each month; you are not allowed to carry a balance. Taking advantage of a bank floating you the cost of sundry goods purchased on a credit or charge card, then paying the bill off in full each month (thus avoiding any interest charges) is sound financial practice. Being able to leave your money in a (admittedly low-rate) savings account for a period of time after purchasing something means that you are in effect getting a discount for the item purchased. This is a win-win scenario, as the bank makes money via transaction fees, and you make money because the bank is floating you the money for the purchase. While this is not optimally profitable for the bank (which is why credit card companies make it very easy for you to carry a balance from month to month on their cards), it is sensible, and good for both parties, to take advantage.
I'm hoping it's because they realized that OS X as a server is only good as a toy server. People trying to get shit done on servers wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. OS X is (and has been for quite some time) an excellent client OS. It has never been worth even 1/10th of what it costs as a server.
If you follow the right people on twitter, it is an excellent source for news, announcements, system status change updates, etc. It is hands down the most efficient way to rapidly convey new information to a large number of people. Don't follow people who tweet their bowel movements - not everyone uses twitter as a trivial, personal diary; many actually use it to impart (or at the very least relay) new, relevant information. I felt the same as you for a very long time, until I was forced as a condition of employment (at a startup very dependent on social media) to create and use a twitter account. I learned very quickly that if you choose the people you follow well, you can get a great deal of value out of twitter (and maybe even provide some yourself).
TextMate is close enough on the very basics that I always get annoyed when I try to "control excess". It doesn't do two stroke shortcuts, and so I always end up with a search box.
The most amazing view I've seen of the night sky was from the Daintree Rainforest in Australia. The view of the milky way (and the night sky, in general) is far better in the Southern hemisphere than it is in the Northern. I'm jealous of everyone who gets to see it every night. Mind you, as I currently live in NYC, there are still loads in the Northern hemisphere who've got it better than me.

My point was that startups are, for the most part, unproven and unprofitable, so people working for them overcompensate by being a bit egotistical. I say this as someone who's been kicking around the "Silicon Alley" startup culture for a while; I've seen it a few times.
