  6. BFD - Apple propaganda on Rave Reviews for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger · · Score: -1, Troll

I am getting really tired of all of this Mac crap. I got caught up in it and purchased a flat panel mac a couple of years ago (800Mhz) for my kids. It is a really pretty box, but that is as far as that goes. Mac OSX is a really pretty interface, but that is about as far as that goes. The problem is that it is just too slow. My kids do not use it, they complain about the speed. Instead they use an older (faster feeling) 750 MHZ sony laptop with windows 2000 on it for their games. I know I could buy a faster Mac, but I am not going to make that $1000 mistake again. I could go on and on, but momma always said, "Never wrestle with a pig, you get dirty and the pig loves it" Apple, give up the computer business and stick to your iPods. You are just confusing the issue!

Unfortunately this sometimes does not work. I have a packet8 setup and when the box is plugged into the existing house wiring, there is just not enought juice to supply the house phones. I ma thinking it is a voltage drop issue. Actuall you can make calls out, but incomming calls get dropped. I am going to buy a base unit with handsets to solve the problem. Unless anyone out there knows of a telephone signal booster.

I get OTA HD on a radio shack antenna hung from the rafters by shoe laces in my attic. The signal distributes through the house via coax. I do have an amp between the antenna and the HD box. All the major stations come in great (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX). You should see CSI and Monday night football! Our local PBS station (KET) also does a fantastic job. Their HD programming is extensive and they have 4 digital channels. You do NOT need cable or sattelite to get a great TV signal. Use your brain, don't rely on some cable TV or sattelite salesman! Save your money. Drop your cable. You probably watch too much TV anyway!

  23. I have one of these...my impressions on Nexland Pro800Turbo Load Balancing Router Review · · Score: 1

I purchased one of these this past winter and I really have had no troubles with it. It works well, plug and play. I have a cable modem on one WAN port and DSL on the other. I do computer consulting/programming for a living so I needed a reliable broadband connection. My cable line kept going down so I pulled in a DSL line for redundancy. Turns out my DSL never goes down, but cable does (I will probably scrap the cable line and save myself $45/month soon). As for the great question of load balancing...here is the answer. It really does not load balance. Instead it shares the internet connections between applications running on your computers. Let me say this a better way: If you are downloading a huge file via FTP, that WHOLE download goes across the same WAN port. Now if you start another FTP application, that application will talk across the other, and so on. That is how it works, and it does work well. This thing is really meant for redundancy, not getting 2X the bandwidth to your network applications. One more thing... the thing does have a setting so all your smtp traffic goes out on only one port. This is needed for isp spam protection. I would give the unit 9 of 10 stars.
